GTMW 2012. This was a true highlight of the festival. Murky amber golden body with a small white head. Sour and sweet. GABF 2012. One of my favorites at GABF. Pours a fairly clear yellow appearance with a white head. Fairly tart lemon, a touch funky nose. Just a bit salty taste that is mostly dominated by a tasty, barnyard funky, a bit oaky, citrusy flavor. I likey.

Finally I made it around to one of my main goals of the day - Destihl and their fabulous array of sours. First up I tried this gose. Light yet flavorful it was excellent. Then again I have never had a bad sour from them yet.
Aroma / Appearance - Semi-transparent with a flat base the appearance takes on a life of its own as it settles. There is not much carbonation but plenty of smokey lemons. The dry texture smells like a warm beach.
Flavor / Palate - Tart with a sweet candi sugar bite this is vinegary in its sour profile. Fruity pineapples give it a tropical edge. Along for the ride is also a mango touch. This is an aggressive beer that is a great example of what a brewer can do with skill and the right opportunity.
On tap at GTMW - Pours clear yellow with a thin white head. Nose is honey sour, with nice tartness and a light fruitiness. I don’t get any salt in the taste, but there is real nice vinegar, Sweet Tarts, and a sour/sweetness. A bit of vinegar, and real sour on the finish. Light and watery--good stuff. Draft on tap at Destihl’s 1st Barrel and Firkin Fest (Normal, IL). Pours a richly glowing golden hue, just a kiss of haze with a frothy bigger brighter white head. Frothy and laces pretty well, small lacing. Aromas are tart and funky, growing lemon elements, oak, and gentle vanilla funky brett, straw, and horseblanket. Lemon grows and that distinct mellow sourness element does come out, a touch of acidity as the sourness tarts to grow. A touch earthy and bready. Initial is mellow sourness that grows to a medium strength, touches of oak and bready malts, that distinct Destihl lactic element with lots of lemon, touch of grapefruit and straw. Gentle yogurt as a bit of acidity comes out into the middle. Touches of sour apples, crab apple, and bready malts. Kiss of fruit, lemon. Touches of yogurt, oak, and mellow acidity linger into the finish, kiss of lemon grows firmer, bready malts. A more mellow sort of sour for the brewery guys, but it’s definitely a sour. Solid, quite quaffable. Great summer sour that is lighter, preacher a bit of leather and brett up front pushing more sourness into backend and finish. Pour on tap at GABF, hazy yellow pour with white head, aroma brought notes of salt, biscuit, bread, nice yeast in there, a touch of lemon and slight spice in there as well, not super salty or sour but nice. Draft at GTMW 12. I’m going to be a stickler here; this is not a gose. Per the brewer, this is actually their hefeweizen soured. That being said, pretty damn good base sour here. Pours a pale gold, slightly hazed with a white head. The nose is tart lacto, some toasted wheat. Fruity and sour in the nose, pleasant and clean. On tasting, great fruitiness to go with the strong lactic acid notes. Very tart and clean. Refreshing and light. I’d love to see them take some fruit to this ones to really play as an open canvas. Really liked this one, just don’t call it a gose...
