Cask dispensed to a fluted 4 oz. sampler at the Normal, IL. location on Octoberfest 2012 afternoon. Displayed a nearly opague, darkest brown color, with a fluffy, off white/light tan head, and spots & spray of clingy lacing. The aroma was roasted, cocoa, a hint of char, pumpkin, a diverse blend of spices with cinnamon and nutmeg dominating, and a smooth macaroon scent on the back. The spices mellowed, and more of a dry roasted nature was expressed in the flavor, which combined with the hops to provide a medium bitterness. A touch of tartness, possibly from the pumpkin, soft, cask carbonation, and a medium+ body were also presented. The finale remained pleasantly dry. I had just missed out on sampling the vanilla bean version, so I have to thank Katy for making this nicely complex, second variation available to me!
