OAK!!!!! As the standard offering, hops are second to the malt in this barley wine. The time in the barrel has load this been with vanillins and just the right about of tannins on the finish. Very full and slick in the mouth. Alcohol is present here with a warming sensation, but avoids being "hot" in the taste.
on tap-pours a tan head and hazy copper color. Aroma is dark fruit-raisin, medium malt-caramel/toffee, wood. Tastes is dark fruit-raisin, medium malt-caramel/toffee, wood/vanilla/bourbon. drowland (8938) - Georgia, USA - APR 30, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Not too bad. Sweet and malty with a dash of smoke. The barrel aging comes through quite a bit with oak, vanilla, and tannins.
