Modest rim, gone in seconds, leaving a yellow line around a muddy amber-brown beer. Overwhelming nose of fruity hops and aged spirit, wood, cherries, madeira, Bourbon, eggnog. Sweet-hoppy, faint bitterish, and a little wry component. Very comples, layered flavours. Again lots of fruity notes, remindful of dried apricots, dried cherries or other sugar-laden fruit, orange peel. Lipsmacking bitterness, faintly spiced liquid X-mas pudding. Very viscous to oily, alcoholburn, warming as none. exploding tastes keep lingering as supernova rememnants. Wow. That’s some Barley Wine (capitals intentional). Complex aroma, fruit, alcohol and a hint of smoke. Lots of hoppy flavour, blends well with the malt. Pepper, alcohol. tderoeck (10195) - Gent, BELGIUM - OCT 24, 2011

Clear deep ruby red beer, small off-white head, unstable, dissipates immediately. Aroma: some wood, alcohol, dried fruits, sweet peaches, sugary. MF: very little carbon, full body, thick cloying texture. Taste: sweet and sour start, lots of alcohol, sugary, very ripe fruits, cherries, strawberries, bit of chocolate, sweet, little bitter, wood like tannins. Aftertaste: caramel, sweet alcohol but very well hidden, some fruity hops.
(Bottled) Very hazy golden with a small head. Sweetish-malty nose with vanilla and soft alcohol. Flavor is very sweet with tons of barley and alcohol warmth - but no burn. Quite full body, low carbonation, almost burning alcohol. Interesting in its own way, but probably too sweet for most. 8348 thewolf (12800) - Kolding, DENMARK - DEC 29, 2010

Pours lovely, deep chestnut with a fine, creamy, dark off-white head. Aroma is sweet, light caramel, vinious, mild smoke, good whiskey notes. Low carbonation, dry and light oily mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet, dry and light oily. Flavour is sweet, very vinious, malty, caramel, oak. Mild whiskey notes. Mild rubber notes. Sweet malts. Tastes like it’s been on Highland casks. Extremely balanced barley wine.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Almost opaque brown beer, little pale cream coloured head. Light smooth palate, a little soft and dry. Sweet rich malt - soft and streaked with toffee. Sweet whisky! A touch of floral candy sweets. Finishes semi dry and smooth with all flavours coming together well. This will be too sweet for most, but I liked it! Although it is boozy it is nit 16% boozy.
Tasting at PapsøOleR (4849) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 30, 2010
Hazy dark amber color. The aroma is not very strong, sweet caramel, some alcohol, but also delicate vanilla. Full bodied, with very sweet caramel flavor; correct bitterness, some alcohol warmth (but less evident than the actual content), with the usual, light dusty feeling; the final is getting traces of herbs digestive liquors. Very good.
Bottle shared by KnutAlbert. Dense low head. Foggy reddish brown body. Surprisingly fresh fruitiness in the aroma, mixed with whisky tones, and whiffs of oak and ash. Taste has a rounded liqeurish malt-sweetness with whisky in the lead. Lots of fruity hop bitterness to back up and to balance. Faint oaky. Distinct alcohol, not disturbing. Full, and warm in the mouth. Lingering alcohol heath in the finish. Strong and rough, yet in balance. Really good stuff. Anker (723) - Hillerød, DENMARK - DEC 29, 2010
