Named in honor of our founder Jeff’s bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer’s home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire’s appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Bottle from Craft Beer Rising. Bright, clear, golden amber, with a small white foam head which dissipates quickly. Nose is sweet toasted grains, sweet biscuity malt, little bit of fruitiness, apricot, Taste is floral, apricot, toasted grains, touch of banana, boiled sweets/candy, delicate fragrance, tangy fruit and slightly bitter hop bite.

Floral aroma that compliments the palate very well. Complex beer, took a little while to really understand how I felt about it. Excellent taste, complex citrus element that I enjoyed.

Where Purchased: 347ml bottle from the Meijer in Michigan (drive home from Chicago) Consumed: from a pilsner glass Aroma: Smells malty and sweet with a hint of hops. Appearance : filtered medium gold with decent head that disappears within the first few sips. Very faint lacing. Taste: very well balanced. Malty, sweet with a balance of hops. Not what a belgian should taste like though. Palate : medium body. Bittersweet aftertaste. Decent carbonation. Overall: A well balanced and easy drinking beer. Although there is hops, its almost like a double with some hops splashed in. The combination works pretty well. I was glad to try and will buy again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on.

finally tried, interesting relic from the past. tastes like amateur homebrew in the way the malts are disjointed. remember an overall balance, amber color. can't believe its a commercial product. my particular can was perhaps past its prime and quite metallic as well.

Drank on 8/12/2017, from I.B.S. Appearance: 2.5 – Nice, clear, amber, Nice big head on pour, nice lacing. Smell/Aroma: 3.5 – Bready lovely wholemeal malts, all malts, no hoppy smells, no yeastyness. Taste: 3.5 – Malty, almost rich, bready, a light good balanced bitterness. A slight sweetness initially, A slight alcohol warmth that just sits well with the malt, Nothing overbearing. There is a hop bitterness but it is light balanced and purely bittering hops, sits on the back of the tongue. Mouthfeel/Palate: 3 – Soft, nice, not cloying or bitter. Nice carbonation. Overall: 3.5 – This is great, its lighter on the malt than something like an Anchor or Kona Brewing beer (which I usually find are very malt forward, and excellent), but its still malt dominant and balanced and really good.

From Jul 2008 I picked up a can on my last trip south to Ft Collins. The pour is a clear gold with a 3 finger head of foam. Good retention and some good lacing. The smell has notes of sweet malt, some biscuit, and some nuttiness. Also a faint nose of citrus. The taste follows the nose and the samples I've had in bottles except I think there's more of the nutty character here and that's what I like about drinking it on tap at the brewery when I visit. Still not as good as there but, it's tasty and pretty drinkable and if the cans show up in Casper some day, I'll buy some.
