Taps clear mahogany with a nice buff head. Aroma presents toasted malt, caramel and earthy tones. Flavor delivers what the aroma promises while tossing in a hint of clove. Mouthfeel features good body and fizz. Ooh, Grand River! deyholla (12276) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 27, 2016

Tap pour at Detroit brewpub. Deep red to amber in color. Creamy foamy head. Smooth body, with a heavy malt profile. Hops come through on the back end but never too assertive. Petkus331 (389) - Redford, Michigan, USA - JUL 6, 2014
Aroma is of cooked malt and some bread yeast. Appears reddish brown with thin off-white head and minor lace. Tastes of slightly charred malt with a pinch of chocolate. Palate is filling, fizzy, and heavy. Overall, solid.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2013 Tap at the brewery on Tigers Opening Day 4/5/13. From memory. Pours a deep dark red color with a small creamy head that fades very slowly. Aroma is packed with caramel malt and just a hint of chocolate. Taste is very malt, definitely more like a scotch ale than an amber. Good caramel malt flavor, very light chocolate notes. Smooth finish. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Tasty scotch ale. Alextricity (509) - Michigan, USA - MAR 20, 2013
Appearance: Likely this beer’s best feature. Has a really nice, deep amber color, and the lacing is phenomenal. Hard to judge it completely accurately though, seeing as how I had it in a plastic cup.
Smell: Not much to it. It smells like the style, but has something sort of "cheap" about it. And that goes on in the flavor....
Taste: It’s not BAD. It’s just not great. I didn’t like it so much my first few sips, but I dug it a little bit more as I finished up. It has a ton of malt, but it’s definitely not of the highest quality. I almost get a gravelly taste. Certainly doesn’t taste "pure", though I don’t think it’s terrible... especially for being a beer brewed in Detroit. As far as made-in-Detroit beers, this is one of my favorites... though that isn’t saying much. DrinkEmUpJones (1069) - Georgia, USA - NOV 21, 2012
