Aroma is lika a black ipa, hoppy and malty, strong chocolate and marijuana hops. Appears nearly black brown with caramel head. Tastes chocolaty up front followed by hoppy savoriness. Palate is ordinary. Overall, good, like a black ipa. firstsip (733) - Michigan, USA - JUL 6, 2014
Tap at brewery. Black. Lingering layer of head. Coffee nose. Strong roasted malts and almost Black IPA-quality hopping. JPDurden24 (1675) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - JUN 2, 2012
Black pour, off white head. Roasty and good with some Chocolate and molasses with a little bit of coffee. Pretty good. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - SEP 4, 2008
on tap-pours a brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-coffee/molasses. Taste is rich dark malt-coffee/molasses/roasty, secondary hops bitterness. Not my style, but well done. Occasional. Tmoney99 (14490) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 7, 2008
Draft at MBGF Summer08. Poured black color with medium brown frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth dry texture. Medium flavor of toasted malt with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid brew.

A very enjoyable blend of coffee and semisweet chocolate set against barey and an oaty background. ClarkVV (6708) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 4, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2006 Rich muddy brownish/black. Good sized dark brown head. DBC’s good beers are only slightly filtered. This one has a very even, round moderately dry roasted barley flavor. Some light, mildly sweet coffee sticks on the palate as well. Medium bodied, no hint of wateriness. Good flavors of roast, some smoke, slightly bitter finish. Their beers arent the definition of complexity, but they are well balanced, not watery, and very flavorful. Decent roasted coffee aroma for the style.
