GoufCustom (1998) - HONG KONG - OCT 29, 2016

750ml cork bottle with mini-booklet, opened with very loud "pop" bought at Good Stuff in Yuen Long.

Looks: Clear golden colour; Explosive two and a half finger head with soapy white foam lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with very fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very Fragrant and sweet Pils malt, with strong perfume, honey, caramel, lemon, plums, dark fruits, sparkling wine, strong floral, icing sugar, strong herbs, bread, strong wine yeast and grass. Nice!

Taste: Close to strong sweet Pils malt, with strong alcohol, liquorices, strong honey, fair dark fruits, floral, glucose, strong herbs, strong wine yeast, lemon, quite strong bitter hops and grass.

Body: Full body. Quite dry, thin and slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Very good Pils maltyness in a solid background. Thin and dry-ish, more bubbly than creamy. Strong booze, plums and strong herbs hit at the same time, but taste fairly harmonic with strong floral. Very Belgian and winey yeasty with strong lemon to round. Strong but quite nice!

Booze and Sweetness: the 11.5% alcohol is explicit, but blends well with strong herbs, honey and plum esters. Sweetness is glucose-like, strong but not cloying. Good!

Hoppiness: Strong floral, lemon, strong herbs and grass in nose and taste; Bitterness is quite strong for an abrupt, mid to high astringent sweet-bitter finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry. Sweet, boozy and herbal bitter to mouth.

Comments: As the reputed Champagne beer, I had high expectation and it’s a mixbag – good looks and bubbly winey, but the aroma and taste is somehow sweeter, naked boozyness and oddly too herbal. It’s enjoyable to share casually with friends, but given the price tag and how it was made, it should be more than this. Still worth a try for the curiosity!

Tasted in Belgium Beer Weekend 2016. Golden, clear with bubbles just like champane. Sweet and little bit of sourness, pleasantly fullfills your mouth. Never tasted this kind of beer. Had to buy 1 large bottle and bring to Korea ! One of the best beer in my life. (Also one of the most expensive!)

Aroma is citrus, lychee. Smaak is zacht fruitig. Gekoeld te drinken in champagneglas. Zeer lekker

Gedronken met Gyhallmanti en SimonBlok, licht doorzichtig, korte schuimduur, smaakt vol en sterk, richting Tre Fontane, perfect koolzuur, niet te zoet, hele lichte bitter, droge afdronk

gyhallmanti (510) - Groningen, NETHERLANDS - AUG 17, 2016
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2016 33cl bottle split with SimonBlok and Richardvv94. Pours a clear golden colour with a big white head which diminishes to a thin layer. Aroma of vanilla, tart, perfume, honey, cloves, yeast, citrus, banana. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter faint acidity with a soft dry finish. Notes of vanilla, tart, spices, alcohol, banana, coriander. Texture is oily, full bodied with lively carbonation.

AgentAle (1743) - Alberta, CANADA - AUG 13, 2016
Aroma is citrus, lemongrass, pepper, vanilla, perfumr and lavender. Taste is light sweet malts, clove, honey and tart . Some pepper, lavender bitterness and sweet citrus. Appearance is a clear gold with a medium laced head that retains quite well.

Drunk from 75cl bottle at Paulina and Hans. Enjoyable beer that does not taste anywhere near its true strength. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice aroma with a large body. Interesting development. Drank it to warm, the aromas developed banana flavours and a hint of citrus.

thellgren (1058) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUL 24, 2016
0,75 l Champagne bottle from Uba ja Humal, Tallinn. Aroma is citrus with something that reminds parfume. Colour is golden, cloudy and huge Champagne head. Sparkling like sparkling wine. Taste is not like champagne since this is made from barley. Champagne yeast is leading the taste. Not really a brut but a demi sec. As a sparkling wine not a very good one, but this is an ale, so it is great.

SeniorZozo (1843) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JUL 20, 2016
Looked classy in a champagne glass, lots of bubbles. The aroma is spice, yeast, intriguing. Taste is spicey, smooth, good yeast and complexity. Really liked this
