Tap at RFD - Dark caramel color with a wisp of head. Sweet malt on execution. Eeh MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - AUG 10, 2012
transparent red-black, no head. Oily Nose shows wheat, lemon and grass with time. Thin watery profile, requisite profile. Light lemon and wheat throughout, bit hot acids. Dark Malta dont play much of a factor, reminds of a watery Berliner, good but no different than other Berliners. Seinfeld: "Look to the techno weiss, Elaine." On draft at the brewery. Definitely a new experience. chocolate black with a big creamy head. Taste is chocolate, coffee, oak...and sour. A strange blend that works really well. Light and cris, dark and refreshing. A whole lot of dissonance going on here that comes together to make something beautiful. magsinva (1428) - Virginia, USA - JUL 7, 2012
Tap at DB brew pub - Pours black with 2 fingers of tan head (didn’t get the simple syrup added). Smells lovely, dark chocolate and malt. Taste is a mild tart. Palate is minerally, finishes a touch dry. Overall, very interesting experiment, I’d get it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone mansquito (6904) - Nueva York, New York, USA - JUL 1, 2012
Rustico, Ballston tap ($6): Pours a black colour with a white head. Aroma is like an attenuated Berliner weiss, with a whiff of roasted malt stuff and stuff. Taste is extremely light. There is barely any sourness. The roast is very minimal. The beer isn’t so much watery as it is extremely light. While I found this to be interesting, I thought it was lacking pizzazz or something.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2012 Tap at CK. Deep clear cola pour with small beige foam. Nose is cocoa, bitter coffee. Taste is tangy, lemon juice, small cocoa and coffee. Interesting. On the edge of something like infected Shorts PB&J. But it narrowly pulls it off. Still, it is clearly two flavors profiles clashing: lemon and chocolate/coffee. Acidic lemony coffee is off-putting. Palate is refreshing at least. Fairly successful experiment.

Served on draft at the brewpub. 100th Devils Backbone rating! Woot! And I gotta say that Jason O. and the gang have made that quite a worthwhile endeavor. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized creamy head. Decent head retention. Tart aroma with notes of roasted malts, chocolate, cherry, citrus and a vegetal note. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, tart cherries, clay, citrus and a slight vegetal note. Medium bodied. JDBaker11058 (2351) - Maryland, USA - JUN 15, 2012
Appearance: the color of milk chocolate, with a short, creamy light tan head and soapy lace. Aroma: roasty dark malts, with a hint of coffee, with a sort of lactic/acidic tang bringing up the rear. Taste: light, slightly roasted coffee beans, a bit of black bread, a hint of a sour tang, with some slight yeasty spice. Finish: smooth yet spritzy, with a creamy, tangy, chocolate/citrus combo. Notes: Very interesting. I HATE berliner weisses, but I didn’t hate this. Reminded me of a much-toned-down Aventinus on the malt side, with just a hint of lactic, spicy tang and sourness on the BW side. On draft at Birch & Barley with a cool raspberry-tarragon syrup on the side.

Tap. Dark copper brown, with a thin off-white head. Sligt lacto sour cherries and light chocolate and roast in the aroma. Very mild sourness that's backed up by almost a schwarzbier light roast and chocolate sweetness. Lighter to medium soft body. Weird and not all that sour.

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a medium brown, touch of haze. Aroma is a touch of sweet and roasted malts. Flavor had notes of coffee, roasted malts. Not nearly as funky as I expected, though there’s a touch of sour notes to the beer.
