We added a generous amount of milk sugar to this black beer to create mild sweetness and fuller body. Black, medium-full bodied with hints of malted-milk chocolate goodness! Milk Stouts originated in England and were seen as being so wholesome and nutritious that they were often prescribed to nursing mothers and convalescents.

appearance: dang near black, creamy pour with a beige head. aroma: roasty, full of coffee, dark chocolate, hint of vanilla, definite lactose tang with a hint of soy sauce. taste: scads of semi-sweet dark chocolate (tending to sweet), with coffee, vanilla, and talc. finish: lasting sweetness, lactic notes, just a tad of smoke; creamy palate. notes: Solid milk stout. Not the best ever, but very respectable. Bottle from the Beer & Wine Cellar.

Keg @ Brixx. The pour’s black with a small head. The nose is lactose, but, melted candy bar. The taste is nice, giggly sweet with a dry bitter finish. More cream, brown sugar. Whole nut Cadbury. Slightly toasty. Light body, smooth. Excellent for what it is.

obguthr (6932) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - SEP 18, 2013
Draft: Charcoal and coffee nose. Mahogany, thin head. Coffee flavor, light residual sweetness especially in the end, but not readily identifable as lactose. Smooth, soft carbonation.

Location: Draft at the Brewpub, 11/21/12

Aroma: This one has a nose of milk chocolate, coffee, cream, and just a drop of oat
Appearance: It has a brown-black colored pour with a brown head and some creamy lace
Flavor: The flavor of this beer is medium sweet, medium roasty, and a little bit bitter too
Palate: This one feels pretty creamy, it has a medium body, a soft carbonation, and a light dry finish
Overall Impression: This was the mystery beer of the day at the brew pub, and I thought it was a pretty solid example of this style. It isn’t a special beer, but it is quite solid with a nice mouthfeel.
