kramer (6474) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 17, 2017
Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a small wispy brown head. The nose is chocolate, coffee, licorice, roasted malt, and a bit of burnt caramel. The flavor is pretty decent, on the sweeter side, with some heavy chocolate and caramel notes. Some licorice and roasted malt, along with a slight hint of alcohol on the finish. Medium bodied and just a touch clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Fairly solid effort.

guzzler67 (1676) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - JAN 21, 2017
Thin tan head over a mostly black body that left light lacing. Aroma dominated by roasted malts with residual notes of smoke and chicory. Earthy flavor of dark rye bread with a touch of caramel sweetness. Hops show up briefly early on but seem to have disappeared while savoring the aftertaste. Modestly carbonated, full bodied mouthfeel and a lasting finish.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Minimal head just covers the top of the opaque body and quickly reduces to a thin edge. Very nice aroma with hints of chocolate, coffee and dark roasted grains. Flavor follows. Very good balance. Well hidden alcohol.

Appearance is dark and clean, taking on the color of burnt wood. One finger dark tan head. Nose shows woody notes and a papery quality. Some licorice and sweet malt. Chocolate and caramel notes with dark fruit. Round and sweet dark malt in the flavor. Some char and roast with burnt sugar and some molasses. Earthy/rustic. Medium light bodied.

JDBaker11058 (2021) - Maryland, USA - MAY 19, 2016
appearance: jet black, with a short, creamy tan head and minimal lacing. aroma: blackstrap molasses, dark chocolate coffee, black licorice. taste: roasty, with lots of bitter dark chocolate up front, smoothed by molasses, vanilla, and burn wood, with an undertone of star anise or brewers licorice. finish: silky palate, slightly chewy, with lasting sweet dark chocolate and roast. notes: One of the better baltic porters Ive had. Licorice notes are restrained but present enough to add character. Roast was less prominent in flavor of more smooth chocolate. Tasty.
