3/13/17. 12oz bottle from Publix. Clear golden orange pour with a small khaki head. Light floral and grainy aroma, old skool. Same on the flavor - old skool American IPA. Floral, grainy, meh. Not awful at least.

On tap at Oceanaire Seafood Room, Washington DC on 09-Mar-2017. Clear golden amber colour with a medium sized white head. Aroma of sweet malt, citrus and pine. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of biscuit malt, caramel, orange-peel and grapefruit. Lightly hopped and bittersweet finish. OK, but nothing special.

Excited to sample another Devils Backbone brew, although this one was not a personal favorite. On tap, poured a nice deep orange copper appearance, with a strong piney hop aroma. Up front seems to be predominantly a lot of hoppy bitterness, resin and grapefruit notes, not as much malty balance. True to the West Coast style i suppose, so I cant fault it for that. Pleasant round medium-bodied texture, with a hefty hop resin finish. Not bad but seemed excessively bitter overall and not enough maltiness as other more complex and balance IPAs, at least for my personal preference. Would be willing to try it again though.

Appearance: Bright copper. Finger of white foam. Nearly clear Nose: light malt sweetness. Medium to strong aroma of citrus and tropical fruit hops. Taste: sweet caramel with good hop presence. Orange, mango and pineapple. Body: medium light. Active. Parting thoughts: A pretty solid, if by the numbers IPA. Above average.

(12oz bottle, North Carolina) AROMA: good hop notes with some warmth/caramel, butter. APPEARANCE: medium color, orange-ish Amber, not overly dark, medium-light head, some residual clinginess. TASTE: citrus peel, barrel/wood, hint of soap, PALATE: lightly oily, smooth at first, significant bitterness without being over the top, dry finish, lingers a bit. OVERALL: not bad. Belongs in the high-end IPA group, but slightly less complex. Missing that something special (other than the butter/caramel) but an enjoyable brew..

Shared bottle after babysitting. This is a perfectly passable IPA. Just feeling a bit over the style. Has all the right elements- good floral/citrus/ grapefruit hop notes and a decently bitter finish. Caramel dominates. Somewhat malty and seems like higher ABV than it actually is. Fine. Just a bit boring.

September 26th, 2014 - Devils Backbones Eight Point IPA is a fairly standard entry into a good, crisp IPA. Coming from San Diego I appreciated the emphasis on the grapefruit notes without going overboard on the IBUs. The smell was harder to get, since this was consumed straight from the bottle (over board games).
