Aromas of toast, espresso, and mild cocoa. Clear, ruby-brown, with quickly fading, off-white head. Dry, roasted chocolate and coffee flavors, with a very balancing bitterness. Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a roasted malty finish.

I went to Virginia for work and found this on tap at a local pub in Yorktown.
This was in a pilsener glass.
The appearance was a nice dark brown close to black in color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that must have maintained itself for a good minute and a half before it gently started dieing.
The smell had deep dark chocolate malts up front and let some milk chocolate malts come in as it warmed a bit. There were some nice banana esters lightly coming out as well.
The taste was a nice banana chocolate malty sweetness, but wasn’t heavy to show enough characteristic of being dessert in and of itself. There was no aftertaste nor finish.
On the palate, it sat fairly light and like I already said displayed just a bit of the previously mentioned flavors but didn’t exactly over do anything. So, if anything it had a fairly decent sessionable quality about it. The carbonation was smooth and dry.
Overall, I say this was a good Munich Dunkel lager, well worthy of having again and having with its respected food. I guess I just need to spend more time in Virginia for work. radagast83 (8624) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JAN 19, 2013
Draft at brewpub. Poured a clear, dark ruby-brown color with an off-white head. Aroma is some light coffee and chocolate notes. FLavor was very nice, with some chocolate and some light coffee along with some malt characters that were quite pleasant.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2012 A Czech style tmave, so technically neither a schwarzbier or a dunkel, though on the darker end of the spectrum.
Pours a deep mahogany, topped with a creamy off white head. The nose is bready and lightly grassy. In the mouth there is a nice malty sweetness, again lots of bread and toasted notes, rounded out with a coffee like edge. Very smooth body and insanely drinkable.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of dark malts, berry-like fruit notes, some roast and a faint bit of smoke. The taste is chocolate, toasted malts, roasty notes, some earthiness and a mild but bitter hoppiness. Smooth, creamy, medium bodied. Very nice beer.
