Appearance: deep, dark brown; nearly black, in fact, with ruby red edges and half a finder of very creamy, light tan head that slowly shrinks to a thick, soft cap, leaving tons of lace. Aroma: light roast coffee, hint of dark chocolate and vanilla. Taste: dark, bittersweet chocolate, milk chocolate pudding cup, caramel, graham cracker, vanilla, brown toast. Finish: lasting light, bittersweet chocolate and roast coffee, with just a hint of earthy, grassy hops. Notes: Superlative. I mean really, really good. Palate is creamy, and light, yet full-bodied enough to hold the well-balanced flavors. Top shelf.

I stumbled across this beer at a bar in DC and fell in love with it. Pours very dark - but dob’t let that fool you - easy drinking beer. Notes of caramel and coffee after it is poured with a decent head.
This is a fine beer and I think you should give it a try! coyforce (684) - California, USA - MAY 11, 2014
What a smooth and delicious schwartz bier! Pour is a nice pitch black with a brown head. Flavor is roasted malts. Palate is very smooth with a nice roasted aftertaste. Shanebrews (293) - Virginia, USA - MAY 28, 2014
Schwarzbier is one of my favorite styles. Devil’s Backbone is brewing an exceptional version of the style. It is rich in the aroma, taste, and palate displaying coffee and roasty malts in all. The finish is warm with a slight almost espresso like bite and gloriously long in the mouth.
