Same lable, but says Black Lager. Dark brown with tan head. Aroma is bready with a bit of bitter roast, char, caramel and a hint of coffee. Not bad, but didn't stand out either. Zymurgeist2 (2436) - Redwood City, California, USA - OCT 20, 2017
Bottle to glass at Ascott's in Bermuda. Pours deep brown with minimal head. Lots of ash on both the aroma and flavor. Thin mouthfeel as well. Smoky. bhensonb (15969) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 3, 2017
Bottle as Dark Offerings at RFD. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of slightly toasty dark malt with chocolate and leather . Med body or better. Flavor is making me think of chocolate malt tablets with leather and/or anise in a subtle way. Very tasty schwarzbier. eRock_2013 (522) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 21, 2017
UPDATED: MAY 19, 2017 Sampled this under the label "Black Lager" at the Columbia World of Beer Festival 2017, appears to be one-and-the-same beer based on the label art and description. Regardless, I was excited to try another Devils Backbone brew, and I was quite pleased with their classic rendition of this style. On tap, this poured a simple dark brown, with a toasty dark malt aroma. Toastiness proceeds to a warmer roastiness in the flavor, which is dark chocolate and coffee malt. Some roasty bitterness present from the dark chocolate notes. Smooth with a medium body, would be very drinkable i imagine, with a simple clean finish of milk chocolate. True to the style as it doesn’t have much hops to speak of and relies entirely on a complex malty profile to distinguish itself, and succeeds in doing so! Would love to have a full pint of this some day. brownaler (742) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - FEB 7, 2017
Has a syrupy coca flavor with ground coffee like malt. Finish is a bit milky.

Appearance: Medium to darker brown. Finger of tan foam.
Nose: Sweeter roasted caramel malt. Touches of roasted nuts and wheat toast
Taste: medium bittersweet caramel malt. Touch earthy, touch roasty. Finishes cleanly
Body: Thinner with soft carbonation
Parting thoughts: A pretty decent example of the style. Nice find.

Shared bottle. Decent. Great style- a lighter bodied and less sweet dark beer. Medium bodied. Notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel but with the crisp finish and bitterness of a lager. Perfect fall-ish beer. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. tmongoose (2504) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - NOV 26, 2016
