Bottle thanks to Eric. Pours a dark copper with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong smoke, ash, licorice, caramel, wood. Medium body, peat, smoke, ash, wood, nice dry finish, very good.

Bottle from Kroger. Pours dark brown - cola colored, with a small beige head. Aroma is definitely smoke, caramel, earth. Flavor is tasty smoked peat, salt, light caramels, minor chocolate. A bit thin for a smoked, and almost tastes like liquid smoke rather than true smoke, but I could be mistaken. Nevertheless, I enjoy it - especially the smoky and salty aftertaste.

Dark brown, relatively thin cola glow with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of mushrooms, meat, liquid smoke, earth, caramel and a touch of grain. Medium-bodied; Assertive meaty and mushroomy flavours with a ton of liquid smoke and fakeish smoke flavours showing some grain, alcohol and a bit of earth as well. Aftertaste shows more smoke flavour, very fake, with mushrooms, earth, roasted malt, oats and a touch of alcohol shows through and ends with some small amount of caramel as well. Overall, a very funky, fake tasting smoked beer with more pungent characteristics than anything else enjoyable. Not really worth trying unless for some reason you loved smoked beers, but that theoretically is another reason to stay away. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Arlington, Virginia on 20-October-2016 for US$11,99/six pack, sampled at home in Washington on 16-December-2016.

Bottle. I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of smoked beers, unless I’m in a very specific mood and place. This is technically a pretty well made example of a dark Rauchbier, with full-on ashiness, and the sense of putting last night’s cigar in your mouth. The chocolate malt underneath is fairly wimpy, but it really doesn’t matter because the smoke is what dominates here. (#6385, 10/27/2016)

Draft at the brewpub, 5/17/14. Pours a dark brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of strong meaty smoke, roasted malts, dark chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, smoked ham, moderate hops in the finish. Thin-medium bodied. Nice.

Location: Draft at the Brewpub, 11/21/12

Aroma: The aroma has some smoked malts, a little bit of oak, and some coffee as well
Appearance: This one pours a medium-to-dark brown color with a nice beige head
Flavor: This one has a nice smokey flavor with a little bit of bacon and a hint of coffee
Palate: This one has a nice creamy feel on the mouth and a medium-plus body
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid Smoked Porter. The smoke doesn’t completely overpower everything else, which is nice. I really didn’t have too many complaints at all. If you like Rauchbiers/Smoked Malts/Porters, you’ll most likely enjoy this one.
