Rich beautiful amber, ruby, copper and bronze glowing beer, all with a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head that fades fairly quickly, along with an almost violet glow - nice and bright at the light. Aroma of super pungent pit fruits, alcohol, oak, vanilla, bourbon, light spice, grain and a ton of caramelised sugars - nice and pungent throughout, with the woodsey scents the strongest. Medium-bodied; Strong rich malty flavours at first with the pitted fruit flavours next and then showing a lot of wood, vanilla, oak, grain and toffee near the end, all with a bitter tannic flavour at the finish. Aftertaste is complex and rich with the wood, bourbon and vanilla flavours the strongest - not entirely sweet, but showing the brown sugars and oak for sure. Overall, a nice beer that shows a lot of complexity from the aging process, and somehow a lot of mellow and understated elements, which is a relatively good thing, however in this case, it is perhaps too muted and mellow for the style - the additional aging by me seems to have done the trick - no pungency or deep alcohol flavours that are unbearable at all. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street), D.C. on 14-January-2015 just twelve days after my youngest daughter was born, for US$8,99 and sampled at home in Washington when the same daughter is almost two and a half years old on 12-May-2017. Bottling Date: [unknown] - states 8,0% abv // Purchased: 14-January-2015 // Sampled: 12-May-2017.

22 oz bottle from Nimbleprop shared with a group at an Athens bottle share. Pours a clear reddish caramel brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, toffee, dark fruits, vanilla, wood, some herbal notes, a hint of booze, decent enough.

Bottle tasted at a hotel share in Athens, OH. Thanks to alexsdad06. Up front, some dark fruit and dark chocolate. Mostly clear red brown color. Thin off-white head. Loose bits of lace. Medium-plus body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Bigger bitter taste, lighter sweet. Just a touch of warmth. Solid wee heavy.

Appearance: deep clear ruddy purplish garnet, with a thin, almost nonexistent bubbly white head. Aroma: toffee, molasses, brown sugar, cherry, raisin. Taste: light molasses, hint of brown sugar, some brown bread and cherry, raisin, a bit of wood, and some clove. Finish: lingering sweetness, a bit of yeast, and a hint of booze. Notes: Is this a scotch ale? Maybe my palate was off, but this felt much more like a filtered dubbel than a scotch ale. Even so, it was a tasty ale. Bottle from Westover Market in Arlington, Virginia.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark malts with nutty and toffee and caramel notes, some oak and vanilla, light hints of dark fruits, and some light whiskey. Flavor the same with a decent blend. Average to smoother texture. Not a bad beer at all.
