Diamond Knot Brewery has been working with Seattle metal legend Michael "Whip" Wilton of Queensryche for quite some time to perfect the recipe for the new Whip Ale. And the time has come to "release the beast." Diamond Knot will tap the first keg of Whip Ale on May 12 at 6:00 p.m. at its 621 Front Street Alehouse. Whip Ale is an American Pale Ale bittered with Nugget, Simcoe and Cascade hops. Pale, Caramel and Vienna malts provide a balance to the bright, citrusy hop flavors. American Ale Yeast generates a clean, crisp finish.

Bottle:   Golden, fairly clear, large frothy eggshell colored head... as it settles it takes on the look of pancake batter.   Nice lacing, soft carbonation.   Soft hop nose, slight mealiness, a bit of grainy maltiness, slight earth.   As it warms I get more soil like aromas.   Semi-sweet on the tongue, not real hoppy, a little bit of biscuit and toffee.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Lingering earthy/soily malts.   Not very hoppy at all, in fact seems like it could be a weak Amber Ale.   Prefer a bit more bite in mine.   Its well done, clean, but just not my style.   Decent tho.

Extra buttery butterscotch nose. Clear amber, medium head, good lacing. Flavor is still buttery, but to a lesser extent and with hay notes. Not sure what the point is with this beer, unless the brewer is trying to popularize a new style: Imperial Diacetyl Ale

From a bottle poured a straw color with a fair amount of head. Buttery malty flavor with a lingering finish.

650ml bomber pours a golden/orange color with about a finger of white head and some nice thin lacing. Aroma is mild citrus hops and caramel. Taste is light grapefruit with some earthy notes and a light caramel malty sweetness. Decently balanced with a medium body and light carbonation and some pleasing flavors.

Bottle; poured a ruddy brown/orange/copper color with a medium sized head. Aroma of caramel, bit of vanilla, very sweet, some veggies. Not a great aroma. Flavor more hoppy than expected; but the malt and yeast notes are not very appealing to me. Sweet vegetables. Not a huge fan.

22oz bottle. Poured a slightly hazy golden color with a pretty large white head. Aroma is sweet fruit notes, touch of yeast, mild hops. Flavor is okay, but something seems like it is "missing" in this one.

Bottle shared by beerboxer. Pours light golden with a modest off-white head and a fruit and pine aroma. There is a hearty caramel malt flavor with a nice hop profile to create a satisfyingly balanced brew with a smooth bitter finish.

a strange mash of interesting hops flavors with sharp flavors. the many hops bring together a wild assortment taste. the taste is slightly floral. An interesting idea that is not the best at the end,

The aroma is well balanced with citrus hops and corn like malt. The appearance is orange gold with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is thin but OK. Overall a great season beer.

First taste was a little off, but then this improves quickly. Smooth with a bit of hops to finish. Overall decent.
