Intensely fruity and complex Belgian-stlye ale. This special beer is brewing art from start to finish. A full mash tun of malted barley is required to reach the high gravity required for this style, along with a high percentage of a special classic Belgian-style malt. Noble hops are added sparingly to the kettle. During the long boil special kettle sugars are added in the Belgian tradition which lend unique flavors in the fermenter. A classic Belgian yeast strain is pitched and the long fermentation is monitored closely as the flavors develop. The beer is then chilled and aged before being kegged and bottled.

Thin head and a burning amber color. fruit and burn sugar in the nose with some alcohol. Cloyingly sweet with peppery notes and a little fruit and wood. But for the most part, sugar and alcohol. Prehaps after some ageing...

12 oz bottle from Dick’s brewery pours a murky copper with a big tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with esters of banana. Taste is sweet and earthy. Banana and raisins. Very earthy with bread like qualities. Not too boozy for 10%. Smooth and I think it’s a little underrated. Great beer!

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a moderate white head on it. Nose is quite sweet, with some caramel and rock candy, as well as a fair amount of fruit to it (like figs). Taste is also quite sweet, yet filled with fig flavor as well. OK, but not my sort of thing.

12oz bottle purchased at total wine in Lynnwood. Pours a hazy Amber color with a medium sized white head that leaves decent lacing. Smells of grapes, Belgian yeast, pear, clove, and pepper. Tastes of the same things. Mouthfeel is slick and oily with light carbonation and a dry finish. True to the grand cru style. One of the better Dick’s offers as their Belgians.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at The Beer Junciton. Aroma: moderate apple aroma. Appearance: very small, off-white, initial head that disappeared in seconds. Fully diminishing longevity and fair lacing. Tiny body particles, and hazy, dark-amber body. Taste: moderately sour, cherry-like initial flavor, and heavily sweet, over-ripe fruit-like finish with long duration. Palate: medium-to-full bodied with oily texture, soft carbonation and lightly alcoholic finish feel. Overall: a very complex and well-brewed beer, but it was too sweet for my tastes and I wouldn’t drink it again.

Thin disappearing head. Aroma of raisins,yeast, alcohol, bananas. Tastes the same but with a grapey start and a woody progression. Reminds me of brandy. Enough effervescence to avoid being syrupy but still is sweeeeet.

First taste is of grapes and plenty sweet, reminiscent even of a grape soda. Flavors of burnt sugar, yeast, vanilla and cinnamon later. Slightly bitter finish. Quite heavy in the mouth. Elements of an abbey ale are there, alright, but overdone.

355ml bottle pours a light brown color with a small white head that leaves some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild with caramel and yeasty notes. Taste is caramel malty sweet with some spicy hop bitterness and a yeasty dry finish. Medium to heavy body with some nice carbonation. A decent brew but flavors need to be more complex to fit the style better.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours slightly cloudy orange. Minimal head. Aroma is a hint of fruit and syrupy sweetness. Taste is floral, apple, banana, clove, caramel malt, and funky Belgian finish. Sweetness throughout. Big alcohol that doesn’t hide.

Hazy amber, frothy beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, dough, malt. Taste is sweet dark fruit and Belgian yeast. Pretty good beer. Alcohol was not overwhelming.
