COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Stout cacao et vanille, ça, ça me parle.

Draft. Quite black. Thick (nitro) head. Rich chocolate and a touch of toast...smells sweet. Sweet and chocolate...ok that rich hot chocolatey stuff, honestly this has some good taste but lacks complexity...the nitro...would like more character.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2017 One of the best DDC. This is the reference for the stout. DDC has their magical recipe. Had my second one today, not that excited about it. Lowered by 0.2.

Nitro at Louisville Beer Store. Pours a pitch black with a creamy, beige head of foam. Huge cacao nib nose with some faint vanilla. Deep chocolate notes, toasty marshmallow and almond. Well-balanced with a lingering creamy, coffee-like, cacao nib finish. Awesome.

On tap at Owen's Ordinary in North Bethesda, MD, where it is listed as "Aphrodite." Opaque, near-black with a with a tan head and excellent lacing. Aroma of cinnamon, chocolate, milk, coffee, ancho peppers and vanilla. Taste of milk chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, ancho peppers, lactose, cocoa and coffee. It has the ancho pepper flavor, without the heat. A very well balanced flavor profile. Medium/full body and medium carbonation with a velvety mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Chocolate and vanilla. Pretty much everything that has those two things is good and this beer is no different.

Bottle at home courtesy of Maakun. Black with thin tan head. Milk chocolate, coffee berry/bean, cocoa powder, vanilla, milk skin, hazlenut, roasted marshmallows. Big sweet and moderate bitter. About medium body, bit powdery dry, bit watery thin velvety feel, soft carbonation. Like the deep roastiness.

Bottle shared. Very dark brown with small beige head. Lots of vanilla, roasted malts, cocoa, light earthy, toast, soft creamy, roasted hazelnuts, brown sugar. Like chocolate milk with marshmallows in it, just less sweet. I’d say under medium sweet even with dry cocoa bitterness. Just medium bodied with a bit dry mineral feel. Pretty nice!

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours black worth a creamy persistent foam, brownish in color and very fine. Aroma is cocoa, roasted. Body is mildly carbonated, with some tongue-tickling. Taste is somehow bitter, though not if the hoppy type. Must indeed be the cocoa giving this bitterness. Some final sweetness as well. Final is rather long and mildly bitter.

12 oz. Bottle from Kl&wine Merchants [email protected]: pours very dark brown, almost black, opaque with foamy light brown head. Aroma: roasted grain, dark malts, with notes of dark chocolate, cacao, cocoa & vanilla nibs. Flavour is very similar with notes of roasted grain, daRk malt which takes on coffee, cacao bitter dark chocolate, vanilla, cocoa. Finish is dry, body mefium, texture smooth, carbonation is moderate.
