Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Bottle poured a clear dark brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla, light roastiness and light coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla, roastiness and a hint of esspresso with a smooth dry lingering milk chocolate finish. Very tasty dessert beer would go great with a great chocolate cream pie.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Brought by me from Cracked Kettle in Amsterdam. Black-colored with a nice brown head. Aroma of lovely rich chocolate, cocoa powder and some dark fruits pralines. Sweet flavor with some strange herbal bitterness, vanilla, coffee and some chocolate. Full-bodied. Good stuff.

Tap at CBC, May 2012. It pours black, with a thin light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, almond and chocolate. The taste is milk chocolate, roasted malt, charcoal, vanilla, filter coffee, earth and wood, with a dry finish. Medium body, low carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Not very complex, but smooth and easy drinking. Nice.

Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured black color with medium creamy tan head that lasted with excellent lacing. Aroma is very complex with roasted malt, vanilla and bourbon. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy chocolate bittersweet flavor and moderate to heavy complex dark sweet bourbon finish of long duration. Standout complex beer for dessert or with a cigar.

Lubiere (13911) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 25, 2005
Pitch black stout with a creamy thick moka head. Light cocoa in aroma, with light vanilla notes, and some coffeee beans. Smooooth bitter chocolate with vanilla lingering in mouth. Rich and complex, and pleasing. One word here: Silky! A very classy stout! Enjoyed with M_Heine and GonzoBeer, on Dec. 17th, 2005 (YeHaa).
