COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This shimmering gold amber coloured beer has a light, smoked malt aroma. It’s well-rounded, with a great taste of malts and with a hint of sweetness. The smoky taste is quite dominant at each new draught. An original and notable beer, La Charbonnière is a house specialty.

Appearance: Dark copper, almost maple taffee colour. 1/2" head that lasted a couple minutes. Very distinct rings as the volume went down. Smell: Smoked malt and caramel Taste: Smoke and caramel Feel: Acidity and carbonation cut through the smoke. Quite long and not unpleasant. Overall; My first smoked beer. I didn’t think I would like it, but I did.

341 ml botle. Pours a clear copper/amber with a mid sized off white head. Aromas of wood, smoke, and cured meat. Tastes are wood, umami, smoke, and a touch of sweet toffee/caramel malts. Medium body and carbonation with a long smoky finish.

Bottle @ RBWG on the Brewbus. Thanks to whoever shared this! Medium amber pour with a small white head. Mellow smokiness. Nice light bread, honey and stewed pears. Flavor is a touch papery, shows some age. Smoke accents supporting a surprisingly light, nimble spring fruit flavor. Honey. Bready malt. Light body, soft carb. Decent, but a bit let down by the oxidized character.

Certainly woody and smoky but still had a nice touch of malt. Easier to drink than other smoke beers (which I am not a fan of to begin with)

Aroma is sweet roasty malts, highly smoked grains, caramel and cask wood. Taste is rich sweet malts, caramel and light rye. Finishes with slight funkiness and tartiness but well rounded overall. Appearance is a clear amber body with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

Pours a dark copper colour with head to the bottom and nice lace. Taste is smoked meat and spices, where they aiming for a Montreall smoked meat sandwich? Not heavy on the smoke like some of the German styles. Might even be sessionable.

341ml bottle (dated 13/07/2012) served in a weizen glass around 6 degrees: It gives you clear mahogany pour showing a good amount of spontaneous carbs and topped off by two fingers of fizzy tanned head. Its retention and lacing are properties are above average which give it more points for appearance. The nose, no surprise, is dominated by smoke and charcoal. The interesting thing is this toasted/smoked almond side to the nose from the malts able to get through, which I thought gave this Rauchbier some originality. I couldn’t really get any hops so I guess they got lost in the smokey features. On the tongue, you a semi-rich nutty/roasted malt attack wrapped up in blanket of smoke. Again, the hops don’t really stand out but I found the pairing of the malts and smoke just fine. It finds it way at the back of the palate with long smokey finish. The brew has a good density and a certain oily feel. Overall I thought this was a good Rauchbier. It respected the style, has great body and most of all, the smokey aspects weren’t too harsh. This beer would be the perfect addition to a marinade for grilled beef. Cheers!
