Bottle from K&L in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is charred fruit, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee. Taste is dark fruits, rich dark chocolate with a bitter coffee finish. The roasted malt flavors bounce between fruity, chocolatey and bitter coffee. Very complex.

Black with light brown head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Lots of roasted grain flavor playing off the initial mocha hit. Smooth and creamy texture, low carbonation. Full, lush body. This beer hits all the right notes!

Bamsen78 (5273) - Snderborg, DENMARK - MAR 21, 2017
Bottle, 6.3% Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of roast, coffee, malt and dark chocolate. Bitter, roasty flavour with notes of malt, dark chocolate and coffee and touches of hops and smoke. Lingering, roasty anftertaste with smoky and coffeelike hints. Good. So nice to be back in the beery realm of Montral, if only vicariously.

MiP (15453) - Snderborg, DENMARK - MAR 21, 2017
Bottle, 6.3%. Good roasted aroma, mild coffee note. Clear very dark brown colour. Small frothy light brown head. The flavour is also very roasted, slightly ashy. Late coffee finish, slightly salty. The roastiness in the finish gets a tad bitter after a while.

Bottle with thanks to Brian! Pours clear reddish mahogany, medium creamy tan head, situated slowly with great lacing. Aroma is rich and roasty, hints of ashtray, leather, molasses. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, rich and creamy. Full body, super creamy mouthfeel. Really good. Really good.

11.5 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/22/2016. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted dark bread, fudge, nuttiness, smoke, grapefruit, orange peel, pepper, pine, tobacco, and herbal; with light charcoal, raisin, plum, prune, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, citrus/earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted dark bread, fudge, nuttiness, smoke, grapefruit, orange peel, pepper, pine, tobacco, and herbal; with light charcoal, raisin, plum, prune, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate pine/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted dark bread, fudge, nuttiness, smoke, charcoal, citrus peel, pepper, pine, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, citrus/earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from hop/roast bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, moderately sticky/chalky, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.3%. Overall this is an awesome American porter! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, citrus/earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Pretty aggressively hoppy for the style, yet not overdone. Given the "India Style" labeling, I already knew what to expect. A really enjoyable offering.

Bierdimpfe (624) - Quebec, CANADA - JAN 31, 2017
Almost opaque dark brown color with a copper hue and floating yeast. Creamy and bubbly brown 2 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with good amounts of lacing. Flavors of coffee, walnuts, molasses, toffee, soft oak, dark roasted malts like barley, cherries, berries, herbal spices. Sharp bitter yeasty feel with thick sugars. Creamy medium to full body with prickly and crispy carbonation. Strong finish, slightly leathery but with a fresh earthy feel, heavily spiced with a dash of peppercorn and black liquorice, ending with smoky and leafy herbal hops and burnt malts. Light barrel aged wooded feel. Very bold but incredibly well intensified from the great Belgian style freshness. Rich delicious taste and a highly pleasant feel that is quite complex. Overall excellent quality craft.

Lukaduke (3160) - Gray, Maine, USA - DEC 18, 2016
Pours a deep burnt umber color with a half finger of khaki foam. Nose is soft dark cocoa, moist cake with hints of vanilla and spent coffee grounds along with lots of complex roast. Palate follows and has a gripping bitterness. Roasted grain plays the lead flavor profile and the nuances in the nose are apparent but the burnt edges and bitterness distract slightly from the complexity.

krumbum (1105) - truckee, California, USA - DEC 18, 2016
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2016 A great earthy chocolate aroma. Deep mahogany beer with awesome brown head. Smooth chocolate is joined by a stick like bitter both balanced and welcomed. So creamy the dry chocolate aftertaste is like a fine mousse.
