Teku glass draft at Dieu du Ciel in Montreal, Quebec. The pour is slight haze brown black, with hints of a ruby and a smaller light tan head that leaves nice lace. The aroma is roast, caramel sugar, tiny hint of char, and as a the beer warms a gentle tart fruit. The taste shows the Rhubarb much sooner, and more pronounced. The Rhubarb as a really interesting acidic tart fruit vegetal kick to the base flavors of roast coffee, caramel sweet malt and the lingering char to the finish. The flavors integrated and played together really nicely. The palate is medium bodied with active carbonation and the roast Rhubarb grassy finish. This was really well made, so good.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark cola brown to black with a thin tan head. Roast and cocoa on the nose. Medium bodied, richly sweet with chocolate and then a vibrant acidity, but quite a spoiled milk level of acid, but certainly odd. Tangy and roasty into the finish. Cocoa lingers, acidity as well, not sour but tart. Interesting.

Still a very fine specimen, good solid head and dark ruby black brown body. Soft sweet barley on the nose. Flavour is soft coffee and barley with this weird grassy kick on the back of it - oh that must be the rhubarb. It is hidden back there but nudges you once in awhile. Probably the best way to deal with it.

June 11, 2014 - at Mondiale 2014 - on draught. Thin-looking black with a decent diminishing tan head. Solid strong roast aroma - coffee beans, molasses, and definite tart fruit - sour yes. Taste follows - very dry, mild alcohol, and squeaky rhubarb. Thin, slick, a bit tart - a little burnt in the finish. Meh.

OK stout, yes there is rhubarb there, but I do not know how the two work together, at least in this cask at cask days.

(cask) clear very dark brown colour with a medium tall brown head; aroma of fruit, then roast; balanced, refreshing flavour with a short, tart and bitter finish

My Bottom Line:
Deeply roasted cereals delve into rhubarb juice and its fruity tartness for a unique tasting experience.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the brown-edged black.
-This isn’t nitroed, which is surprising for a DDC Stout.
-Mouthfeel is very pleasant; not too sweet, not too lean.
-Dark malts build chocolatey flavors as well.
-Rhubarb really stands out the more you down your glass.

On tap at the Montreal location.

Dégustée en fût à la source. Noire noire noire.
