Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Modest head that dies to a thin film--leaves spotty lace that slides down the glass. The color is light brown and very cloudy. Sugary malt aroma; the maple syrup really shows up here. Sweet crystal malt and maple syrup flavor. Enough hop to provide interest and keep the Scotch Ale true to form. There’s a touch of smokiness and molasses. Rich body as expected. I wouldn’t describe this as a quaffing beer, but like others from Dieu du Ciel, it is complex and interesting.

Bottle at home. Deep mahogany with some floaters and a thick, creamy lasting beige head. Carmel, sugary, some roasted notes, quite toasty and earthy maple, old leaves, some dark chocolate, soft grassy and fruity hops in the finish. Over medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied. More bitter than I expected and quite earthy, not a massive sugary maple assault. Quite nice.

Bottle from Jug Shop, San Francisco. Insane. Dark. Vanilla flavored scotch ale with fabulous malt depth and mirky goodness.

Strykzone (7556) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2017
Bottle. Murky deep brown with only a little foam. A maple aroma is rich and pleasant. That translates to the flavor. Very rich malts and some heat. Earth, toffee, and raisins. Some Belgian yeast. This is a huge improvement over the typical Scotch ale.

9.1%abv on this bottle. Pours a very large frothy brownish head. Has a very cloudy, rusty dark brown appearance. Aromas are mild maple, yeast, brown sugar and alcohol is slightly apparent. Flavours are also of maple, with toffee, caramel and light roasted malts. Earthy hops with mild floral hops. Slightly sweet with some spices added to the mix. Smooth mouthfeel with a slick drying sensation. Spices give it a warming sensation as well. Pretty good overall. Goes great with a hearty meal.
