COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Bottle. Appearance: dark black, with nice, quickly fading head. Smell: coffee, dark cacao. Taste: nice notes roasted malt and coffee, dark fruits and vanilla, greatly balanced bitterness, with surprisingly nice and fruity feel for style ABV. Overall: another great seasonal offering from DDC. Above average IS.

341ml bottle thanks to Julien. Pours oily black, dark brown mocha, long lasting head leaving a nice lacing on the rim of your glass. Smells nice strong roast coffee bean, dark chocolate, and sweet cookie, vanilla scent. Tastes like straight roast coffee. Very strong not much else to it. A little bit of dark chocolate sweetness but thats it. Very good flavor but not complex at all. Very straight forward. Medium to full body, great aftertaste of espresso coffee and great carbonation. Very good.

From 341 ml bottle. A quiet pour with medium carbonation and a bland cocoa, malt, and biscuit aroma. The beer is opaque dark with a sepia head and good lace. It has a smooth cocoa and roasted barley start with hints of coffee and biscuit extending into the middle. The finish is long with hop dryness adding to the complexity. Good, but lacks assertiveness in both taste and aroma for 9% abv. Caution: high abv is well hidden.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2016 Bottle at home. Pours pitch black, big beige creamy head. Rich dark chocolate and espresso notes fill the nostrils after pouring, along with caramel, toffee, molasses, light red fruit and further on leather, a tat smoke and quite a firm bitterness and alcoholic presence: well balanced altogether. Lingering dry, roasted malty finish. Big body, velvety smooth and thick mouthfeel, low carbonation.
