The Grande Noirceur is an intensely black and dense beer with pronounced roasted flavours. The bitterness is very imposing but is balanced by a malty-caramel taste. The alcohol content is quite high, but its presence remains discrete in this beer.

ABV initially 8.5%, changed in late 2012 to 9%.

Bottled sample via BreWedge, shared wtih oakbluff. Near black in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of milk chocolate, earthy coffee, and caramel. Flavors are of sharp and roasty (but not astringent) coffee bean, vanilla caramel, and dark chocolate. Lighter bodied for the style, but very drinkable. More of a sessionable take on the style, but still very tasty.

Draught at Montreal pub. Ar: burnt caramel and dark chocolate; deeply toasted malt; a little cherry. Ap: black and opaque; medium light-mocha head with excellent retention, leaving a medium-small cap of solid foam. T: cocoa powder and coffee with clean booze; some burnt caramel; quite clean; a little cherry and biscuit; bitterness is medium and smooth. P: medium body with medium carbonation; medium-dry finish. O: a well-made imperial stout; not terribly complex, but east to drink, and sufficiently Rich and warming.

From Bierkraft. In Teku glass. Watching Stranger Things 2x03. With caña lomo. Very roasted and bitter, with light sweetness and light notes of licorice and metal, but in general very well balanced and pleasant.

340 ml bottle. Dark black. Dense tan head is small and fleeting. Roasted malt nose has metallic notes. Rich roasted malt flavor. Soy sauce, smoked ham, charred wood, burnt sugar and ash. Bitter smoky finish.

Bottle at home. Pitch black with brown head. Deep roast, leather, quite fruity with blue and black berries, toffee, ash, cocoa. Very nice mix between bitter roast, and malty and fruity sweetness. Almost full bodied with soft carbonation. Lovely beer.
