Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 1, 2013
In short: A highly roasted dark wheat beer. straightforward roast, pleasant.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Very dark mahogany-burgundy body topped by a persistent small beige head.
In long: Nose is very toasted, burnt banana bread, toasted sesame seeds, burnt toasts & black coffee. Taste has a whole lot of toasted wheat, a very high roasted sensation, roasted coffee beans, a good chocolate presence which I find a bit unusual for a wheat beer, light notes overripe bananas but not as much as in most darker wheat beers I’ve had. An overall grainy sensation. This dunkelweizen is so dominated by the roast (and coffee and all) that it could almost pass as a weird stout. A decent beer as long as you don’t expect a traditional dunkelweizen. It was very packed at DDC on this day because Zwanze event so I used this opportunity to be nice and courteous to a lot of people because one day when there’s a TV special bulletin about me I want people to say "I’m so schocked, he seems like such a nice guy".

On tap at DDC.
Appearance : Dark amber with small head.
Aroma : Dry roasted malt with some coffee. Light yeast and lingering wheat notes.
Taste : Nice coffee with roasted malt. Slightly burnt. Very light wheat and some vague yeast on the finish.
Overall : Nice take on the style. It’s not that often that I get to try this style. I think I appreciate the mix between weizen yeast and roasted malt. This was very well made and very interesting. Nothing ground breaking but pretty good.

Lubiere (14151) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 5, 2013
A dark hazed brown weizen with a thick receeding lacing brown head. In aroma, a nice musty chocolate malt with peated character, herbal, complex and pleasant. In mouth, a nice smooth chocolate with roasted, with grassy herbal qualities, very nice and quaffable. On tap at brewpub,Nov. 23 2012.

Dark hazy brown hue, with a big fluffly tan head, mild yeasty fruity bananaish, spicy, roasted, chocolate, toasted malt, coffee, mocha nose, with a cocoa powder, chocolate ice cream accent and some faint brownie, roasted nut notes in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice yeasty, spicy. fruity, banana, raisiny, mochaish, milk chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough, cocoa powder character with a roasted, chocolate, toasted, wheat maltiness, faint chocolate wafer flavour, leading trowards a yeasty, fruity, raisiny, spicy, dark chocolatey, mocha finish.

Minderbinder (3469) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 6, 2012
On tap at DDC. Pours dark brown with beige head. Good lacing. Aroma and taste are of roasted malt and fruits (bananas). Palate: Medium body. Overall: Not bad, but the roastiness takes alot of place.

czar (9429) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 4, 2012
on tap at brewpub while waiting for zwanze 2012. overall: schwartz weizen? whatever... dark brown pour with a decent light beige head, some retention and lacing. roasted cereals, some burnt along with fairly present toasted sesame oil notes. leather. faint weizen signature. linear. average carbonation, light body, awkward roasted and grassy finish. too bad there wasn’t a drain close! oh wait, there was minderbinder! ;)

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2013 On tap at Dieu du Ciel Montreal. Dark brown body, moderate egg-shell head, soapy lacing. Nose is roasty with baker’s chocolate, grain, and a bit of charred coffee. Flavor is similar, with a nice grainy base providing a backdrop for the chocolate and roasted malts to shine. Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, lingering, but gentle finish.

Solide.
