COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

11.5oz bottle pours a viscous black body without producing much head. The aromas are wonderful -- roasted chocolate malt, vanilla, and some dark fruit, as well. Flavor follows big time. Lots of sweet, roasted malt and coffee flavors. Alcohol presence is pushed just to the limits of excess, but doesn’t overpower you. Overall, just an excellent drinking experience. The nose tends toward being mostly sweet, but the flavor is very well balanced between all the components.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2017 Bottle (batch: 2016-11-07). Appearance: nice, dark black. Light brown, hazelnut head. Smell: espresso, coffee, and more coffee! Roasted malts. Taste: espresso, cacao, fruity, with coffee and hoppy bitterness, surprisingly dry and drinkable. Smooth texture and feel. Overall: an easy drinking, super tasty, coffee imperial stout!

On tap at DDC St-Jerome. It was among the first beers I had from DDC. Being a coffee drinker, I enjoyed this beer very much. It’s a rich strong black beer with that nice coffee taste, quite rich and complex. I just realized with time that I prefer lighter beers. I can appreciate its greatness anyway.

Bottle from the US shared at home. Black with short lasting tan head that leaves a ring of fine bubbles. Massive coffee, blackberries, some marzipan, dark chocolate, ash, roasted malts, figs. Super coffee forward but also with soft dark fruits and malts. Over medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied.

bottle at home for 2016 European secret Santa courtesy of V_Duquerroux, cheers Vincent!
One of my big wants, have heard a lot about it. Big full bodied, warming, tonnes of coffee on both nose and palate, rich and roasty, though not massively bitter, fair amount of residual sweetness to balance. The booze isn’t ovefly subtle either. Big and beatly, not doing subtlety well, a bit of an anticlimax after some of their other beers. Had better coffee brews.

kindly given by Daniel, thanks a lot. Aromas of pocket coffee-sweets, hints of canned Cappuccino, coffee-flavoured chocolate and almost no alcohol fumes. Also almost no alcohol burn present in taste, lots of heavily roasted espresso, coffee bitter finish, quite a thin mouthfeel, this is not a creamy ImpStout. Very straightforward, almost simple composition of a beer.

341ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Roasted, complex aroma, coffee beans, dark chocolate, licorice, ash, hops. Off-dry, full bodied, high bitterness, slightly low CO2. Roasted taste, malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice, ash, caramel, faint smoke. Quite aggressive bitterness in the finish, verging on harsh. (2016-11-15)

On nitro. Pours a pitch black with thick dark foamy brown head. A chocolate and roasted malt aroma with coffee and sweet malts as well. A smooth body with a rich chocolate taste with coffee, roasted malts and hint of caramel malts. A light coffee and chocolate aftertaste.
