COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

2012 11.5oz bottle thanks to mwbrady12. Opening the bottle (wow a twist off) I already get some coffee aroma. Poured from the bottle to a tulip glass. Quite thick with no head at all. Slight bubbling to the surface. Sits in the glass, black and thick like crude. The aroma is of black coffee and malts. Such a good aroma. The taste is nearly as good at the smell. Some bitterness coats the mouth but it is just enough to balance out all the sweetness of the malts. As I drink there is even a slight tan lacing down the glass. Definitely glad I have another to try in a year.

341mL Bottle (Tagged 2016-12-29): Poured straight black with small creamy tan quickly settling head. Coffee dominates the aroma with roasted malt, chocolate, pepper/spice & smoke. Lots of coffee bitterness, with just a hint of light sweetness, alcohol well-subdued but still has a warm feel. Creamy, moderate-soft carb, could be thicker/more full in the body though. Love the long dry bitter ashy finish. Overall: I’m a coffee-lover so I’m biased, but this is well-balanced and intense without going over the top with its coffee addition. Great way to cap off (hopefully) the last snowstorm of winter.

33cl bottle purchased @ So bière. Belle robe noire avec une fine mousse brune. Notes de café au début suivies d’un goût torréfié voire carbonisé. Enfin une belle amertume pour terminer cette bière très puissante.

Fresh from the tap tasted at Muted Horn in Berlin. The nitro version. Full bodied blackest black in the glass. Nice roastet coffee notes. Slightly bitter and well hidden alcohol.

Mooie complexe koffie afdronk.

Nice dark looks with a whitish tan head. Smelled coffee, roasted malts, and red berries. Tastes roasted malt, dark chocolate, berry acidity, and some liquor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a growler bought at craft cellars in Calgary. Pours black with a slight tan head; lots of lacing. Smells of coffee, smoke and hints of chocolate. Tastes bitter with a heavy alcohol finish. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The best coffee flavor I’ve ever had in a beer. Dark rich appearance with a dark roasted espresso flavor with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Some breakfast beers try to capture the entire breakfast, this one just perfectly captures that first cup of Joe in the morning.

Heavy and very persistent aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is very bitter and leaves a stong coffee-like finish, carbonation is average to soft and texture is quite thick. I left it a while outside the fridge before opening but it was still better after a while, so probably the ideal temperature of consumption is around 10-12º. While I’m not a huge fan of imperial stouts, I have to admit this is a very solid beer with a strong coffee accent.

33cl @ bottle. Davvero un’ottima Imperial stout. Bella schiuma cremosa, caffé e cacao al naso, nonostante la gradazione si beve molto facilmente. Ottima.
