Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

I’ve been saying this is one of my faves since I first tried it last year. Then top five. Then once things started running out at Cask Days last fall I gave the majority of my last remaining tokens to this beauty, thus solidifying my commitment and passion. I’m prolly on my tenth four pack this season. Tis the season; while supplies last. Now I call it probably my favourite beer of all time. Although I also like the barley wine by this brewery... still.. Alright: it’s my favourite beer thus far..

341ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Roasted, complex aroma, coffee beans, dark chocolate, licorice, ash, hops. Off-dry, full bodied, high bitterness, slightly low CO2. Roasted taste, malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice, ash, caramel, faint smoke. Quite aggressive bitterness in the finish, verging on harsh. (2016-11-15)

On nitro. Pours a pitch black with thick dark foamy brown head. A chocolate and roasted malt aroma with coffee and sweet malts as well. A smooth body with a rich chocolate taste with coffee, roasted malts and hint of caramel malts. A light coffee and chocolate aftertaste.

Fat på All In Beer Fest, Göteborg. Svart med tunt brunbeiget skum. Mycket kaffe, toffee, inlagda bär. Känns som en mer klassisk, lite kärvare IS. Riktigt bra!

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle at home. Dark brown pour with a coarse-grained tan head. Notes of roasted coffee beans as well as filter coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malts, a bit of caramel, molasses, smoke, subtle bitter cherries and plums. Medium to full body, low carbonation and a roasty bitter finish.
