COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Tom. Brown black with a beige head. Smell of coffee, ash, tobacco, licorice. Heavy sweet, coffee, licorice, alcohol, spicy, bitter finish, light acidity, a bit unbalanced. Medium-full bodied.

At a tasting, many thanks, smallish stable creamy bubbly head, opaque black color, aroma of roasted coffee with some green notes, mellow roasted coffee flavor with some dirt, dark bread, cocoa and milk chocolate in back. Very nice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav’s place. Thanks Tom. Opaque brown with brownish head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee, earthy. Bitter flavor with notes of roasted malt, alcoholic, earthy, sourish. Slightly oily, full-bodied.

Pours black with a thick, creamy head. Aroma is beautiful chocolate malt richness. Similar to its bouquet, taste is rich dark chocolate, with a bitter chocolate finish. One of the most enjoyable chocolate stout out there, and it won't break the bank account.

Bottle thanks to wombat23. Pours virtually black with a frothy tan head. Sticky lacing. Aroma is old wet coffee grounds. Taste is coffee, bitter, with light sour undertones. Nice luscious body — rich, creamy, full. Dry. Not bad but I just can't get into these coffee additive stouts. The coffee is just too overwhelming and the other flavors are lost.
