COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 5/5   OVERALL 17/20
unrulythings (73) - Bend, Oregon, USA - AUG 19, 2008
pours an oily black with a thick light brown head. aroma is sweet and balanced of coffee and chocolate. first sip is strong of coffee, but as the beer warms, there are more noticeable flavors of hops, chocolate, a little bit of pepper, and spice. mouth is close to perfect, simply smooth on the tongue. I’m a big fan of coffee stout so when I saw this at Whole Foods and immediatly knew it had to be a winner.

This is a damn good beer! I want to rate this higher, but the aroma is lacking a bit and just can't give the flavor a 10, but is more like 9.5+. All kinds of good sweet stuff going on here....balanced out with a nice hoppy finish (with a Belgian feel that I am noticing consistant with this brewer). Perfect dark black appearance with a light mocha head. 9.5% ABV is hidden quite well with minimal burn. Even though this may be just outside of my top 5 rate IPS's....flavor-wise it is right up there with the best. I have to get this again now, just to be sure.

Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors - 11.2 oz bottle. Dark black pour with a slight purple twinge to it, initial thin mocha head that dissipates after a while. Aroma of baker's unsweetened chocolate, some coffee accents, a hint of licorice. Delectable flavor, Some anise seed, bittersweet baker's chocolate, a touch of black coffee. nice chalky essence to the mouthfeel. One of those beers I always thought I had had.....glad I looked it up!

Pitch black color, medium sized brown head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, cacao, lactose and slight vanilla. Bitter taste with roasted coffee beans, roasted malt, cacao and wood. A bit too much coffee for my taste.
