COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

The beer is hiding the alcohol so well it makes me think no more then 7%. Very smooth and mild. Very easy to drink. To easy. Coffee notes are also mild but delicious. Greatly balanced.

This strong stout is a bit too strong for me. The alcohol makes it too overpowering.

From a sixpack purchased in QC by my mom. Screw caps, yeah! Pours midnight black without much brownish head. Coffee aroma. Mouthfell is actually pretty light. Taste is coffee and more coffee. But it’s real coffee and it’s not burnt, so it’s yummy. First few of these were OK, but the last one with a year or so of age was very tasty. Good stuff.

Rich dark brown/black color; Heavy creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, rich coffee, & chocolate; Flavor of roasted/smoky sweet malt, burnt coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, and hops; Nicely balanced & complex; It’s all about coffee - very good overall.

Great creamy solid guinness like head and black body, minimal carbonation, a joy to look at really. Strong sharp coffee on the nose with hints of licorice, oak, charcoal but in a good way. Flavour is chocolate syrup and espresso with coffee bean, barley, charred oak. Smooth finish. A real winner and deserving of its reputation.

341mL Bottle (Tagged 2016-12-29): Poured straight black with small creamy tan quickly settling head. Coffee dominates the aroma with roasted malt, chocolate, pepper/spice & smoke. Lots of coffee bitterness, with just a hint of light sweetness, alcohol well-subdued but still has a warm feel. Creamy, moderate-soft carb, could be thicker/more full in the body though. Love the long dry bitter ashy finish. Overall: I’m a coffee-lover so I’m biased, but this is well-balanced and intense without going over the top with its coffee addition. Great way to cap off (hopefully) the last snowstorm of winter.
