Black IPA. Again, an american invention. This style was born at the "Vermont pub and brewery" around 1997. It could be said that this beer tries to be an hybrid between a regular IPA and a porter. The Pénombre presents a light body and well expressed tofferaction tastes. The whole is however dominated by an evident bitterness, which stays always in balance with the other tates found in the beer. In the after taste, the bitterness and hops flavours are growing slowly dut surely, sip after sip.

Appearance: Black color with a big frothy beige head. Good lacing.
Aroma: Dark malt, chocolate, grassy, fruity and grape hoppy.
Palate: Medium to full body. Slightly sweet, and a rich bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Really complex flavor. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, fruity, grassy and grape hoppy.
Overall impression: Decent BIPA. It is just that I do not fancy The Grassy notes to much.
Personal stats: Bottle from net order at Systembolaget, Sweden.

pours clear dark brown, almost black, with a thin light beige head, little retention. salty bitter chocolate, fresh roastiness and coffee, some pine and citrus, hint of maple, spicy licorice, burnt grass, slight umami, but chocolate-oriented for sure - more like a well-hopped porter. average carbonation, medium long coffee and citrusy finish. not too heavy. clearly enjoyable!

341ml Bottle - Black with a small tan head. Coffee, liquorice, pine , roasted malt and a hint of burnt rubber in the aroma. Roasted taste with pine, coffee, soapy hops and cocoa. Fairly well-balanced compared to some beers of this type. Enjoyable and easy to drink.

T: very good indeed.
