Black IPA. Again, an american invention. This style was born at the "Vermont pub and brewery" around 1997. It could be said that this beer tries to be an hybrid between a regular IPA and a porter. The Pénombre presents a light body and well expressed tofferaction tastes. The whole is however dominated by an evident bitterness, which stays always in balance with the other tates found in the beer. In the after taste, the bitterness and hops flavours are growing slowly dut surely, sip after sip.

Cerveja escura, olfato e paladar intenso, com aftertaste duradouro, mas não é dos meus estilos preferidos. Dispersou um pouco da minha experiencia com IPAs

11.5 ounce bottle. Very dark with amber highlights. A big beige head leaves some lace. Not a big aroma but some cinnamon and light fruit. The flavor is much more aggressive. Big citrus hops that bring a good grapefruit puckering bitterness. Some sulfur. Rich malts and what seems to be a common yeast for this brewery.

Another from my brother-in-law. Clear ruby brown with a finger of tan head. Smells of soft toasted malts, molasses, light yeasts and in the background hops. Tastes creamy sweet toasted malts with a hoppy bitterness. Smooth on the palate. Solid brew.

Pours a solid black with a short tan head and lacing. It has a strong resin and dark malt aroma, with a dark malt and toast flavor up front and a bitter, hoppy finish over a heavy-medium body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Beese (2743) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2014
Bottle from BottleDog, London. Pours a very, very dark brown, with a dense beige head. Aroma of vanilla, dark malt, chocolate and pineapples. Thick mouthfeel. Great complex flavours of tropical fruit, burnt malt, bitter pine and rye bread. Finish is sharp, bitter resin, coffee, toast and berries.

Backlog rating. 12oz bottle from BD Camden, London. It pours a hazy dark brown color with ruby edges and a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts and dried fruits, toffee. Taste is quite harsh roasty and bitter with notes of coffee, earth, cocoa, tangy red berries and piny hops. Finishes resinous and bitter. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, ok BIPA

Une bière très gourmande sur le chocolat et un peu le café. Belle amertume. Une bonne bière si l’on aime le cacao mais pas vraiment une IPA.
