Dark brown. Fruity, vinous and barrelly Rich, funky but maybe too much hop because this does not totally come together. Bov (13221) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - JUN 21, 2012

- black beer with a long lasting beige foam; fresh hoppiness and note of black cherries; full-bodied, some earthy tartness and a robust bitterness; quite fair astringency from the wood; dry and solidly woody, roasted coffe and licorice - robust and with lot of character
on tap at brewpub. pour is inky black with a nice frothy medium dark beige head, good retention and lacing. nose is resinous hops with coffee and complex roastiness, light burnt. soft carbonation, medium body, oily withtout it being to heavy. medium hopping, long bittering resinous-coffee finish. Cask - Volo Cask Days 2010, Day 1. 97 IBUs. Hazy chestnut pour with a solid, lasting very frothy tan head. Leafy, roasty aroma, dry resin, some thick coffee and nutshell roast, and at least mid-level alcohol (8-). Taste is lovely - fairly strong alcohol, huge leafy/resin dry bitterness, all perfectly balanced against deep roast bitterness - but still not "stout"-y. Slick mouthfeel, somewhat boozy, lightly carbonated, medium-to long bitter, slightly burnt finish - a nice one for sure Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - APR 8, 2011
Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with an off white head and very good head retention. Roast y with light coffee tones, burnt malt and light bitterness. Dry with a roasted coco like hoppiness and a drying earthy tone. A nice mild bodied black ipa with a creamy carbonation and a roasted bitterness. Very nice.

En fût au pub (8) - Première bière de ce style dégustée. Arômes et goût de café mais avec une amertume plus poignante. Je vais sans doute regoûter ce style plus souvent! TheJester (2542) - Cavan Monaghan, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 12, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Deep chestnut brown with a nice brown head. Too dark in here to tell if it’s cloudy or clear. The appealing aroma has equal measures of chocolate, caramel and hops. And some roast. The flavour is sweetish, with ripe berries and fruit, booze, chocolate, espresso and American hops. A more complex malt profile than some other DIPAs I’ve tried. I think that the body could be a little fuller, but what do I know? GRM (4140) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 28, 2010

Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2010’. Pours a very dark brown with a small lasting bubbly tan head. Awesome aroma and flavour are roasty along with lots of leafy green hops and some coffee. Nice bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Average to medium bodied. An amazing beer. TimE (6067) - Tokyo, JAPAN - DEC 20, 2010
Very dark brown color, chocolate pine trees with a hint of tootie roll. A bit more malty than I would like, but nice. Full bodied, rich, well balanced. Definetely a step away from other Black IPAs as the focus is much more on the the malt with chocolate, tooties, nuttiess with citrus hops playing nice in the background. Certainly well made, but took me back in the approach. I like it, but others may not appreciate it as much. I understand. Cool shit.
