dark brown pour, aroma of roasted malts, bitter piney hops, and some coffee, and toffee. The flavor is quite sweet, and finished quite bitter with a mix of piney hops, and roasted malt bitternesses. and interesting black ipa. Quite a bit more complex them your regualr black ipa. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 16, 2010
On tap at Vermont Brewfest 2010. Black pour, decent sized light tan head. Aroma starts with heavy notes of chocolate, lactic cream, caramel, and roasted malt-- my initial thought was "porter." Upon sipping, however, the heavy malt notes eventually give way to a really nice but subtle presence leading to a semi-bitter finish that is still balanced by the aforementioned darker traits. Palate is creamy and rich, not as bitter as many black IPAs. Most beers in this style taste like regular IPAs but appear black; in this, the black conveys not only the color, but much of the beer’s smell and taste. Very nice. Bottle. Thick brown head on black beer. Soft aroma increases to a nice light citrus scent. Flavour is citrus and brown ale. Finish is oaky coffee and hops. Big alcohol. More hoppy stout than black IPA. jredmond (8645) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 6, 2010
BQ2010. Sampled on Draft at Dieu du Ciel Brewpub. A much more agressive black ipa, compared to penombre. Sugary and a bit of booze underneath rich oily hops.. Packs heat.
