This is a stout that is perfectly married to a black IPA. You can taste both. The black IPA at the start then a real stout at the end. Beautiful! davidm (2080) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - NOV 20, 2010
Tap at Volo, on cask. Exceptional beer, almost full marks. Aromas of chocolate, grass, and coffee. Sweet, with bitter notes, and long length. Syrupy, with a medium-to-full body. Black, with a frothy white head. Bov (12888) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - JUN 21, 2012

- black beer with a long lasting beige foam; fresh hoppiness and note of black cherries; full-bodied, some earthy tartness and a robust bitterness; quite fair astringency from the wood; dry and solidly woody, roasted coffe and licorice - robust and with lot of character
Riche, épaisse, sapinée, résineuse comme si la pionnière que j’ai dans la bouche avait vraiment défrichée la toundra de ses mains. kindacold (235) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - FEB 20, 2013
Wow. Pours almost black with a MASSIVE creamy head. Smells malty, grainy, coffee. Taste is complex. Lots of coffee and bitterness. Some chocolate, good amount of hops, toffee, cream. The "double" aspect of the beer is definitely apparent. Finishes sticky and bitter with a hint of sweetness.

Bottle. Thick brown head on black beer. Soft aroma increases to a nice light citrus scent. Flavour is citrus and brown ale. Finish is oaky coffee and hops. Big alcohol. More hoppy stout than black IPA. TonyDiUlio (664) - New Jersey, USA - JAN 4, 2010
Tried this beer while on Beer Quest 2010 with the guys. This was beer number 47. Pours a dark amber. Aroma of sweet hops. Slight roasts in flavor. hoppy as well. Nice brew. TeamTrappist (832) - jericho, New York, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Tap at Blind Tiger. Poured a deep black with a tan head. Nose is very hoppy and piny and citrusy. Had this on a gravity keg. Very full bodied and robust ale. Lots of hops but a big malt backbone balances it very well. Really drinkable and really tasty. Finish is big and bittter. Well done rejtable (2752) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 13, 2013
Loved this one. Big black coffee pour with lots of lacing. Nose is coffee and some yeast. Aromas are espresso, roasted malt. Tastes are light sweet with big bitterness. Alcohol is well integrated. Mouth is medium body and medium carbonation. Great effort!

Draft at Beer Revolution Calgary. Almost black color, tan had, decent lacing. Aroma of bright pine and pinecones. Taste is roasted cocoa, lightly burnt espresso. Very nice.
