COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This noble brown winter beer with fiery reflections offers a complex aroma of fruit, alcohol and hops. Once tasted, it is slightly sweet with a hint of burnt caramel. Aged in American oak barrels, the bitterness has eased and it has wooden notes topped with a subtle touch of vanilla. A maderisation occurred after maturation in the barrel (aged one year), and the textures and flavors blend, becoming sweeter.

341 ml bottle received in trade. Thank you Glouglouburp! Pours hazy deep amber with a creamy goldenish beige head that is rather quick to dissipate while leaving some sticky trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, roasted coconut, wood, toffee, vanilla fudge, alcohol, honey, sweet bread, butterscotch hard candy and hints of dark grapes. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with toffee, caramel, butterscotch hard candy, sweet liquorice hard candy, roasted coconut, slightly dry grass, golden syrup, alcohol, dark honey, wood and hints of lemon and orange zest. Mouthfeel is smooth, round, tiny sticky sweet, tiny boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with caramel, toffee, coconut, vanilla fudge, dark honey and charred wood. Very nice!

Shared by turd. Showing some serious age/oxidation. Pours ruddy brown with no head. Candyish nose with a light bready character. Would have liked it much more fresher.

Big thanks to Fred for the Bottle!! Pours a hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma smack if caramel, brown sugar and deep dark mollasses with some booze. Flavor is very very sweet with touches if vanilla and oak but it’s dominated by mollasses and almost burnt sugar. Still it was a great beer.

RBJG2. Dark amber. Aroma is funky and boozy, bit of caramel, coconut. Taste is boozy, coconut again. Sweet, very nice. I don’t like coconut but have recently had two beers that taste like it and have really liked both. Weird.

Bottle - 341ml. Hazy dark brown body with a thin off-white creamy head. Rich, complex malty/hoppy aroma with Bourbon, fruity, woody, and some yeasty hints. Alcohol is discreet. Awesome, sharp malty/hoppy taste with porto, oaky, and Bourbon notes. Ends with a neverending, robust, warming bittersweet finish. Fantastic!

Bottle at Tim’s RPJG#2. Sweet with lots of bourbon and coco nut aromas. Also some dried fruits and lots of residual sugars. Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Dry and bourbon finish.

Bottle thanks to Glouglouburp. Pours a muddy, rusty brown with a medium sized off white head. Solid lacing. Nose shows some mild oxidation, heavy caramel, subdued vanilla, brown sugar, light barrel-like tartness, dark fruits. Its almost quad-like at times. Seems like the aging and barrel have thinned this beer out a bit and made it more drinkable than I remember the un-barreled version being. Flavor is a bit sweeter than the nose, lots of brown sugar and caramel and less dark fruits. Finishes sweet, and lightly metallic. Not a big barley wine fan these days, but this one stands out more than others.
