COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This noble brown winter beer with fiery reflections offers a complex aroma of fruit, alcohol and hops. Once tasted, it is slightly sweet with a hint of burnt caramel. Aged in American oak barrels, the bitterness has eased and it has wooden notes topped with a subtle touch of vanilla. A maderisation occurred after maturation in the barrel (aged one year), and the textures and flavors blend, becoming sweeter.

Pours a nice chestnut brown with slight off-white head. Moderately boozy aroma with roasted notes. Light Bourbon booziness up front, roasted body, not too sweet which is nice, some earthy notes hit the sides of the mouth and linger in the finish. Quite good and warming on the first day of winter. Notes: on tap at the Brew pub during Dec ’16 Montreal visit.

Another great beer courtesy of Tommy. I always tell myself that i dont care for barleywines until i have a great one. This one is toasty rich and loaded with dark fruits and spicy oak and vanilla. Finishes dry enough to make me want more.

Bottle 341ml. Pours dark brown with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of bourbon, sugar, malt, alcohol, fruits. Taste is of bourbon (alot), alcohol, malt, sweetness, some wood. Bitter finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Overall: Loads of bourbon/alcohol in there. Not hidden at all (wich suits me in that case). Not too cloying sugar-wise. Medium drinkability (wich is good for the style). Very good beer.

bottle thank you to glouglouburp for this "complex aroma of fruit, alcohol and hops" beer. 2009 on the ribbon and properly stored in kitchen cupboard till 2015. aroma of big sweet boozy rum cake, figs, dates. bit of dimetap. alcohol soaked date/fig/over ripened plum fruit with a licorice and cough syrup pete. mellowed out. not overly sweet. only big gripe is the cough syrup presence, otherwise warming and somewhat drinkable.

Bouteille 341ml (version 2012 - viellie 1 an, titrant 10,2 % abv), courtoisie de SlovakSniper.

Sweet and oaky nose with vanilla and toffee note with just a touch of dark fruits. The taste is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, with dark fruit, caramel, etc. Nothing special, typical barley wine.

Drank on tap, at the Microbrasserie Dieu du Ciel in Saint Jérôme, on January 30th 2010, for their second anniversary party of their brewery in St. Jerome. Dark amber, small head. Aroma of malted barley, matured fields fruits well spiced. Taste of caramelized fruits well malted, warming alcohol. As exellente as the original.

Bottle: Thanks, Alex. Muddy, opaque dark brown body with a bubbly khaki layer of foam on top. Aroma of sweet caramel, dark prune, figs, butterscotch, light toffee, slightly tart currant, & a hint of underlying maple syrup. Maybe some faint tannins? Barrel wasn’t heavy on the nose but WOW, certainly jumps out in the flavor! Huge charred & spicy oak kick up front, strong barrel-induced vanillin, faint coconut, maple syrup, caramel, toffee, a touch of cocoa powder, anise, & a lighter dark fruit essence. Pretty warm & boozy up front, but mellows towards the back-end thanks to the sweet malt finish. Loving the flavor, here. Robust without being too boisterous. Wow, really nice stuff.
