As I pour I see that it is on the lush ruby side of brown witha cream coloured head that didnt settle with much permanence, but it didnt bugger off in quick time either. The aroma lingered predominantly in darker grains: chocolate malt and brown ale malts especially with a touch of dusty caramel. It is a lovely smell though. The smell isnt of deep, rich, sweet chocolate, rather cocoa powder and maybe a mention of fruit peelings. Plenty of mouthfeel upon drinking give you a chocolate mousse or milkshake sensation and then theres a return to the dusty cocoa. Theres some sweetness, but not unwelcome. A pinch of dark cocoa bitterness at the end. I did like this, but I felt that it could have had a little more character. So often Brown Ales suffer from a slight lack of inspiration. Lets revive a great style shall we?

Backlog entry: A massive flight at the brewpub. All beers were a bit on the light side. True to style. The variety is impressive and they are worth the try.

12oz bottle pours a bright clear reddish brown with a large khaki head. Light cocoa in aroma, caramel, and toffee. Taste similar to aroma clean and crisp with a solid bitterness, and some toasted grains. Nice brown ale!
