English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

Draught@EBF2008. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head, some lace. Aroma is hops, grass, mild wood, cookies and some slight alcoholic sweetness. Flavour is nuts, hops, fruits, yeast and some alcohol. Very well balanced and pleasant.

Medium light brown head. Deep red hazy body. Sweet deep firm malty aroma with raisin notes and a fruity background. Intense dry-sweet powerfully malty taste with raisin and sherry notes. Some straw and grain. Some alcohol heat. Dry roasty malt aftertaste. Very nice! (0.1l taster draft at EBF ’08.)

Beautiful sweet dark fruity hoppy aroma. Some alcohol burn, but very tasty tangy hops. Good sipper.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2008 Draught Reddish deep-amber beer, shortlived yellow head. Sweet, alcoholic, figs, sultana’s and honey. Terribly sweet nose. Bitterness overlying the near-syrupy taste/feel. Hoppiness is crude, however, nearly metallic. Just too sweet, and IMO nowhere 10.5%.

Dark nut brown color, thick beige head. Berry-like, malty nose. Very sticky, sugary beer, lots of caramel. Same time very drinkable. Some carbonation. Malty, caramelly, woody hoppy aftertaste.

sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 13, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 23, 2010 (Bottled) Clear, deep dark ruby color with a medium, firm and tanned head. Aroma of berries and strongly grainy maltiness. Flavor is sweetish and very grainy-malty, with berries and a touch of warming alcohol. Alcohol is well hidden. Full-bodied, but not sticky with low carbonation. Very nice, but not quite as awesome as the draught version @ EBF. But with strong cheeses, this must be a great beer! (Draught, was 8-4-9-5-17=4.3) Opaque, dark orange-brown with a smallish, firm head. Strongly grainy, berryish, fruity, sweet aroma with a bit De Dolle -like yeastiness. The flavor is very similar to my memory of Stille Nacht, with very grainy, fruity maltiness, and lots of yeast. Very full-bodied, yet somewhat drinkable. A Nordic version of Stille Nacht, I like!
