COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

Pours an oaky brown color with a reddish tint to the head. Aroma is a bit sweet with some brown sugar as well as some hops! Drink is smooth. Nice creamy taste with some bitter hops rounding off the beer. Has a bit of a woody taste to it as well.

Backlog. Slightly too sweet for my taste, but definitely a decent example of the style.

Aroma is malted barley, caramel and some alcohol. The taste is not that good. Too sweet, a lot of alcohol and some odd spicy bitterness to it. During the finish you can taste the alcohol too much. Not great.

Bottle in snifter shared with northropfrye. A warm caramel colour. Coffee and molasses aroma. My favourite thing about this beer is the aroma. Taste is quite rich, complex, but I’m not great at identifying flavours. A bit sweeter. I enjoy it.

Pours a dark copper brown with a little beige head. The aroma is mild with a light grainy sweet must. The flavor is more full with an English old ale simplistic nature, a bit of a grainy bite with drying grainy bitter. Smooth overall, easy to drink with lower carbonation, lingering herbal earthy notes with a little touch of sweet dark fruits.

Tinco (621) - Linköping, SWEDEN - MAY 8, 2014
Bottle bought at systembolaget late 2011. Beautiful deep clear deep red liquid with a nice compact big off white head. Aroma is spreading in the room. Aroma is of sweet fruits, raisins, lots of caramel and toffee, dates, dark fruits, sugars, bready. Smells amazing! Taste: a nice sweet flavor in there with caramel, milk chocolate and fruits. Perfect level of carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden but still detectable. Really nice flavour. Positively surprised by this one! I think some years in my cellar did this beer good :)

doublebock (558) - California, USA - JUN 1, 2012
Orange brown color with nary of layer of foam. Sweet malty caramel candy and apple aroma. Nice chewy maltiness layered with dark fruits and molasses. Picking up some nice brandy flavors. Finishes with a crisp hoppy bite that sits on the tongue for a while.

dumontn (530) - St. Joseph, Michigan, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Pours deep hazy ruby with a tight egg shell white head. Aroma is sweet barley, caramel, toffee, floral leather and molasses. Taste is sweet balanced caramel and spicy hops, very grainy. Body is silky smooth, medium/heavy, no abv apparent, long barley grain finish. Overall, pretty good but not as much as I expected.
