COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

Draught at Lord Nelson. Cloudy orange coloured with an off white head. Sweet aroma of malts, caramel and fruits with notes of hops and alcohol. Sweet flavour of caramel, malts, fruits, hops and alcohol. Hoppy and warming alcoholic finish.

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph.
Pours a wonderful clear, dark amber with a fine, frothy yellowish head. Aroma is very fruity, lots of raisins, overripe plums, some dough, rye bread, caramel. Low to medium carbonation, foamy and a bit oily mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit too vinious (a bit too sharp, that is). Otherwise, flavours include the fruitiness from the aroma (subdued by the alcohol though). A good caramel sweet maltiness as well. A bit too much.

Beautiful sweet dark fruity hoppy aroma. Some alcohol burn, but very tasty tangy hops. Good sipper.

Bottle, pours slightly hazy mahogony with big off white head. Aroma is malty with caramel. Taste is caramel, little bit hoppy, sweet. Nice bitterness. Not mindblowning but still enjoyable.

MotherBrother (945) - Aalborg, DENMARK - APR 11, 2012
Pour dark, deep ruby red, with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of plums, dates, malts, caramel, toffee, portwine notes ans slight oaky notes. Slightly hoppy towards the end. Taste is sweet, with a slight bitter finish, from both the hops and the wood. Medium body, with a medium oily texture, and average carb.

An off-white sheet stays above the calm amber lake. Sugary, jammy/marmalade-like ale with plenty of fruits (strawberries, apricot, pear...) and complementary leather notes make for a rich invitation. The warming alcohol is forward, but kinda fits the ensemble. The malts develop burnt caramel and toffee notes in abundance, these flavours being fortunately uplifted by a brandy-like strong vinous character that could come along with greater acidity or tannins to balance the heavy sweetness, but it does not become undrinkable, it just suggests you to taste slower and more quietly. Pleasant sipper, smooth bodied, chewy, invitingly complex and atypical.

Bottle (500 ml). Traded by SlovakSniper, thanks Patrick! Dark amber with a small off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is dominated by malt with caramel, brown sugar, wood and slight bitterness. Taste is sweet (almost cloying) and also dominated by malt with caramel, brown sugar, slight smoked malt and slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly vinous. Medium body. In my opinion, this is an average Barley Wine that could benefit from aging (hopefully, it will be more balanced and less sweet with some age).
