Editor’s note: Brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

Brewers note: This beer is NOT brewed as an American Pale Ale. It is not brewed to suit a certain style which is why we call it a "hoppy ale".

English: Both the British and Americans are good at using hops - in slightly different ways. We have combined the best from both traditions and created Schopenhauers Vilje ("Schopenhauer’s Will"), a beautiful amber coloured ale with a floral character, caramel notes and - like the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer - a good portion of bitterness. This brew can be enjoyed on a hot summer’s day, a cool evening or accompanied by e.g. poultry dishes.

Sample from 50 cl bottle. Nice, cloudy amber colour with a beige head. Aroma with grapefruit, pines, a spicy note and sweet fruits. The taste is sweet. Medium body with a creamy texture. Finishes bitter with floral hops, spices and some fruit. Well made APA.

Bottle. Hazy amber liquid with medium off - white head. Aroma of citrus, lemongrass, tangerine, light caramel, marmalade and tropical fruit. Nice. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of tropical fruit, grain and tangerine. Medium bodied with a bit low carbonation. Quite allright.

Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Big, lasting beige head. Very clowdy orange color. A small but fine hop aroma that I think goes more towards herban then floral in its charater. Hop domitate the tate and some chrystal malts balasing and a fine litle sparkle. I agree with their statment that it isn’t American nor English IPA or pale ale, just a nice hoppy alt that probably will go fine with hearty food.

draft at Blue Monk. Copper colored pour. Fruit forward notes of graprefruit & peach. decent bitterness, far from a hop bomb but balanced with floral & fruity hops & caramel malt backbone.

Cloudy dark amber liquid with a big white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma of British marmalade with hints of toffee, could be stronger. The taste is quite bitter-sweet reminding me once again of British marmalade. Medium carbonation with lots of tiny bubbles and medium mouth feel. Pretty long bitter after-taste. I can see why the brewery prefers not to call it an APA since it’s definitely more of a hybrid between English and American brewing traditions.

Very nice aroma with floral and hops. Pours orange cloudy (Unfiltered) with nice off-white head. Medium sweet with full body. Lots of Hops and OK bitterness. Will drink it again!

Bottle. Amber with a beige head leaving lacing. Aroma: biscuits, dry grass, light sour, what fruit?, floral. Taste: quite bitter, light sour, grass and hay, orange zest, floral and soapy bitterness, a feeling of pollen. Medium-bodied, a slightly grainy feel to it. Not a personal favourite.

28-SEP-2012, bottle @home, from Fish @ Beer. Orange with high tan head. Pine, grape fruit, sweet orange, peach, earth, caramel. Quite bitter, creany, sweet. Very bitter finish. This is a fine pale ale.

rarbring (2295) - Linköping, SWEDEN - SEP 27, 2012
Aroma: Smelling fruity, somewhat citric and tropical, pine and soap.
Appearance: An almost clear amber ale, an off-white head leaving good lacing. Some lacing.
Taste: Starting sweet, bread, toffee, resin and grape peel.
Palate: Medium high carbonation, smooth and sticky, a big body, a long dry finish.
Overall: A balanced APA, almost ipaish, nothing extraordinary.
Note: Bottle 500 ml. Reviewed 2012-09-27.
