4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma was dark fruits, raisins, anise and toasted malt and chocolate. color dark ruby. Taste, SIlky chocolate malts flavor, dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and light sweetness from maple. Overall, really well made Baltic style porter, I really liked it. I would have rated a slight notch higher, as low carbonation and really not too much going on with the "maple". I picked up 3 growlers, as this is well worth the visit just to get this.
11th October 2008. GABF. A smoky porter with the maple syrup adding a sweet and tangy slant. An unusual and good combination! chimplechamp (601) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 1, 2008
tap at the pub on passyunk east- pours dark nearly opaque with a thin white head. nose is distinctly vanilla and maple, maybe more vanilla than maple. taste is not over done which is a good thing, not nearly as cloying as i thought it would have been. very full flavoured full bodied and delicious. On tap at the brew pub. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and no head. Aroma of maple, sweet malty notes, some chocolate, wood, vanilla and nuts. Flavor was a match of the aroma. A well done porter with a bunch of maple. hopdog (12673) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 3, 2008
On tap at the Dock Street Brew Pub. Poured a deep brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, maple syrup, molassess, and some earthiness. Tastes of maple syrup, brown sugar, chocolate, and some earthiness. Alcohol content well hidden. TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 26, 2008
On tap at the brewpub enjoyed alfresco. Dark brown with a slim tan head. Nose of licorice and molasses. Medium light with moderate carb. Taste is tangy plum and chocolate with light molasses and just a touch of maple and walnut. Dries with some bitterness. Nicely balanced; good stuff.

Pours a deep dark brown, almost black with ruby almost violet highlights and a thin lasting tan head. Aroma is thcikly sweet with fruity esters- plums and raisin, with tons of sweet syrupy toasted and caramel malts- dark crystal and sharp with some toffee, molasses is heavy and osme maple syrup earthiness as well as some nice dark bitter chocolate. Flavor is a bit more porter like- and less sweet- with more bitter chocolate, some earhty and woodsy maple syrup-like, brown sugar alcohol burn in the end, and more fruitiness. Pretty good body- big and full- different for sure, but nice. JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 28, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 26, 2008 Dark brown color with a rather large beige head. Aroma of dry chocolate, caramel, maple syrup, and brown sugar. Flavor has a roastiness to it with lots of sweet malt - mostly semisweet chocolate and brown sugar. Good example of the style that was pretty tasty. UPDATE!!! Not sure what is different, but batch #2 was much tastier! axilla (962) - New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 23, 2008
Poured an extremely dark brown body with a fomay brown head. The aroma was roasted malts and baker’s chocloate. Flavors are a little lighter on the roast with a lot more sweetness than I detected form the aroma. I’m getting a good bit of sugar and brown sugar, with some mild hints of maple. Overall I thought it was a little too sweet. MrYuk (21) - Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 14, 2008
Power of suggestion.....if I didn’t know there was maple in this brew, I would have never tasted it. It’s certainly there, just waaay in the back. No way of knowing this one weighs in over 8% ABV. Very tasty, decent balance of sweet/bitter. Not great, but good.
