Had this a while back on tap at the Albion, Newcastle, Australia. Intense, lively bitterness in this one from memory, really nicely balanced. The way a black IPA should be hopped.
500ml bottle, pours with a beautiful light tan head although slightly over carbonated. Lots of dark fruits come through with a pleasant finishing bitterness. Full mouthfeel but again, slightly over carbonated. Solid beer, perfect on a cold winter’s night like tonight! varanid99 (1257) - AUSTRALIA - NOV 22, 2015
Black with a decent tan head. Roasty, yeasty funk, maybe slight aniseed aroma. Roasty, dark malt bitterness, a little chocolate and coffee ANZUShophunter (472) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - NOV 8, 2015
On tap at Prince Alfred Hotel, Ipswich. A dark black brew with very little head. Hops, yeast and earthy notes on the nose. These blend with the roasted malt on the palate. A nice brew, but I fear I sampled from the end of the keg. Muggus69 (2531) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - OCT 30, 2015
500mL bottle from Slowbeer. BB 08 2016
Damn fine looking beer - near black body, opaque, holding a big creamy pale tan head.
Solid hop-driven aroma - grass, citrus, peach, touch of phenolic spice, treacle and charcoal.
Body quite creamy, smooth, Belgian yeast character shining through.
Palate is an intriguing mix of spicy, grass, citrus hops, subtle roast & biscuity malt, with a touch of phenolic yeast spice and dark fruit undertones. Bitterness quite firm, dry well-attenuated finish.
Different take on a Black IPA, works well. Lunkie (1944) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - OCT 20, 2015
Chocolate malt herbal aroma. Dark brown colour great head and lacing. Malt chocolate flavour. Smooth lingering palate.

Clear very dark brown to black color, dense tan to light brown head. Sweet, roasted, malty taste. Grainy, sweet aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium low bitterness. Sweet, tobacco flower, light roasted scent. Some alcohol.
Looks.. Black cola brown, med- large head.
Smells..cacao nibs, choc, a little malty, belgian quad kinda candy, a little wheat and a little less hop.
Tastes..the front is great with a decent hop tropical and piney hops that then gets lost amongst bits of coffee/choc/cacao. Still some resinous bitterness left in this.. Pretty good apart from the cacao is a bit too present for me. Pyobon (1418) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAR 14, 2015
(Bottle) Fantastic looking beer - black with ruby hints and big dense tan head. Pleasant complex aroma, mainly pine hoppiness but with some earthy, cheese and coffee hints. Medium body with plentiful soft carbonation. The tastes starts with some nice gentle sweetness - berries, candy. There’s dark chocolate notes in the mid-palate which steadily develops a complex bitterness which is hop and dark coffee / burnt bitter. Doesn’t quite work for me, the bitterness is too aggressive and dark. floydian1 (1471) - FNQ, Australia, - MAR 1, 2015
500ml bottle (BBE 12/15). Dark brown pour with ruby red hue and a medium sized beige head. Toasty caramel malts dominate the nose with notes of red berries, brown sugar, and subtle yeasty earthy notes. Palate is medium bodied and slick with moderately sweet flavours and a light spicy dryish bitter finish with perhaps the barest hint of coffee. Very drinkable and yet quite complex. A winner. Roasted nuts and coffee on the sniff. Dark malt, chocolate, liqueur plums with a hoppy bitter finish. Gets better after a few sips. 3.0std drks, 7.6%, 500ml,
