Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBUs, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Omg. I love this beer. I have been waiting and trying to get this beer for 1 1/2 years. All the hype and wondering how its going to taste... It didn't let me down. Hints of fruit. Strong taste of alcohol and spices. Well worth the wait and I can't wait for the next one. ---Crozier

Finally got my damn hands on this one! So... sort of met my expectations: intense, boozy, oily, slightly spicy, and lots of malt to balance the considerable hoppiness. Of course I am happy to try, but would not intentionally seek out in the future. single 12oz bottle

12oz bottle pours a brown color with a bit of head. Musty hops and lots of alcohol heat.

Delicious piny hop flavor. A bit fruity too. Pours bright orange and clear. Nice color. Taste is really big and malt forward, surprisingly. Its not a heavy malt. Its a crystal sort of sweetness, to my palate. Definitely a little straw, bread, but reminds me of chewing on English crystal. Not at all cloying. Hop bitterness is there but not over powering. I get some orange notes I would guess is hops, but might be yeast. Everything comes together nicely. Thick thick body. A bit of alcohol warmth, which is a good warning since its 17%, but it doesnt feel too warm. Delicious.

Sweet apricots and booze on nose. Deep amber with minimal head. Booze leads with raisins and smoky molasses. A bit of a booze burn finish. Medium thin body. Decent and worth it but it is a bit exorbitant in these parts.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle from July, 2011. Aroma is that of an aged barleywine. Very malt forward with fairly strong caramel notes and some lighter toffee and toasted bread. Hints of burnt sugar and roast. Some light raisin, date and fig notes. A light, earthy, herbal resinous hop note. Medium light alcohol notes. Pours a burnt amber, brown color with a medium small, fairly thin, tan head that recedes almost immediately to the edges where it lingers for a short time. No lacing and long legs. Flavor has a moderate sweetness with lots of caramel and toffee notes. Some lighter toasted bread that lingers into the finish as well as some burnt sugar and hints of chocolate. Strong bitterness with a medium light herbal, grassy and resinous hop note that has some hints of pine. Medium alcohol spice in the finish with lingering toasted bread notes and herbal, resinous hop notes. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and moderate to moderately high alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but this really isnt my thing. Its sweet upfront, but the bitterness is too high, even after all these years. While the hops have faded quite a bit they are still their in the finish, and in my mind they clash with the malt notes.

Bottled 01/14/15. A little over 2 years on it (Im told this is a decent bit of time). Pours copper reddish hue, very pretty, fairly clear, white head. Aroma is fig, plum, toffee, booze (still quite hot), burnt sugar, caramel, little bit of citrus and orange undertones. Really pleasant. Flavor is boozy burn, caramel, toffee, fig, little bit of orange undertones, lots of heavy barleywine and American strong ale notes, very nice liquor-y notes, some bourbon, little oak, plum. Low carbonation at this point, and lots of boozy warmth, and noticeable bitterness in the finish. Very good but maybe too boozy even after 2 years. May not be everyones favorite, but Im a big fan.

What I like about this beer is that it is right at the edge of clawing, but not over. This is a sipping beer and for me much closer to a hopped barley wine. Of course a strong aroma of hops and nice color. very nice lacing as well. a bit sweet of course but great by a fire.

Is it a perfect IPA? Maybe, but Ill hold out hope that something even better is out there. Ive got a case of 24 that has aged for over a year now and its still fantastic/ getting better.
