Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

Bottle at Københavnske Øldage 2007. Clear amber - white head. Berries, malty, amber malts, caramel, light bitterness, light earthy, yeasty. Smooth. Hides the alcohol very good, but not very exciting.

The aroma and flavor have light blueberry, but it is definitely a real fruit flavor rather than a syrup. Aroma also has sweet malt, and this is a very sweet beer overall with delicate fruit and hop flavors. Orange in color.

Bottle @ Copenhagen Øl Festival. [#888] Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Fair lacing. Dry fruit, caramel, yeast and hint of spice. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Flavor was sweet with some bitter notes. Sweet finish.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a clear, ruby red with a small, short lived, white head. The aroma is pretty subtle - sweet malts and some dried fruit. The blueberries are very noticeable in the flavor but it blends well. The flavor also has a sort of red wine quality to it that’s nice. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

750ml Bottle: pours a clear medium red with hardly any bubbles, berry and sweet aromas, a soda pop fragrance with some syrup fragrance, there is a wine texture to the beer, alcohol in the mouth, berry and fruit flavor, smooth drink, reminds me a little of sipping a fruity wine, there is some bitterness on the tongue, could be hops or alcohol, this was ok, this beer did not seem to give me anything to say “oooo” or “aaaahhhh” about.

cewldre (268) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 14, 2007
Bottle: This one poured a reddish brown color with a slightly reddish hue head. I definitely smell mixed berries in this one. I can smell a pretty prevelant amount of blueberry. The taste is indeed warm, as the description says. The flavor seems a tad lacking here. As I continue to drink this one, I definitely begin to taste the blueberry flavor make itself known. I notice just a hint of a banana flavor on the palate as I continue to take sips from this one, but it’s mild at best and gone as soon as I taste it. I am not a big fruit beer fan, but this is enjoyable.
